【7 Seeds】An Interesting take on the Post-apocalyptic genre, which shows the good and bads of humanity as a group of teenagers struggle to survive!!

7 Seeds is a Japanese survival manga series written and illustrated by Yumi Tamura.

The manga series was serialized in Shogakukan’s Bessatsu Shoujo Comic Magazine from 2001 to 2002 and then was transferred to Flowers Magazine, where it concluded in 2017. Its chapters were compiled and published into 35 separate volumes. The manga series has over 6 million copies in circulation, worldwide. It even won 52nd Shogakukan Manga Award for the Best Shoujo Manga in 2007.

An ONA adaptation of the manga adapted by Studio Gonzo and Studio Kai was released on Netflix in 2019, consisting of 24 episodes.

The chapter begins with Natsu Iwashimizu and her family on the dinner table enjoying a nice meal. Natsu smiles at her pleased parents as she eats her favourite meal, but she can’t shake off the feeling that something isn’t right. This scene fades into black as Natsu wakes up on a sinking ship in the middle of a storm.

Natsu is awakened by the voice of a girl, Saotome, who warns her that if she stays here, she will drown.

Natsu's last memory was going to bed, but when she gets outside, she finds herself in the middle of the ocean amidst a roaring storm. Saotome and two others have already boarded a lifeboat and signal Natsu to join them before it's too late.

Natsu takes a wrong step and tumbles into the ocean, but one of the boys, Arashi, dives in to save her. Natsu expresses her gratitude to them for saving her. But the danger is still on their heads. The storm is fierce and it feels as if the waves will swallow them whole, but as dusk approaches, the storm eventually settles down and they take a breath of relief.

After things have calmed down, they ask each other for an explanation of their condition, but everyone responds in the same way, saying that the last thing they all recalled was going to sleep at their home, and now they had somehow ended up here, stranded. As they’re having this discussion, they notice an island in the distance.

The group rows the life-boat to shore, finally having solid ground to set foot on after the ordeal that they just went through. Asai, the suspicious man among the group, tries to stir up some trouble but Saotome and the rest just ignore him.

The group formally introduces themselves to each other. Asai notices that Natsu is being overly formal and attempts to bully her but Arashi intervenes, forcing Asai to back down. On Saotome's instruction, the group breaks into two pairs, with Saotome and Asai on one team, and Arashi and Natsu on the other, to explore the island more effectively.

Natsu has always had difficulty expressing herself, because she was often ridiculed at home and bullied in school. She wants to talk to Arashi and thank him for his kindness, but instead of opening up, she bursts into tears.

On the other hand, Asai pulls out a knife from his bag and puts it to Saotome’s throat. He threatens to kill her, and Saotome responds by saying that she wishes to die as well. Unsettled by her response, Asai pulls back the knife, saying that it was merely a joke and that he meant nothing by it.

Arashi and Natsu stumble onto a waterfall and are relieved to have found drinkable water. Natsu signals to the others that they have found water, all the while being pleased with herself for being able to speak up.

They had been so caught up in everything that they forgot to glance inside their backpacks. Eerily enough, they discover water bottles inside each one. They appear to have been sent here on purpose......

What will the group do, now that their survival has begun?
