Hello, everybody. Actually, this is going to be the second time for us to feature this exact series, meaning it’s such a masterpiece that we want many more people to know it. I’m Manga Republic’s Boss.
Hello, everybody~! The series we’ll be featuring today will be made into such a wonderful anime series too, for sure!! It’s Saori from Manga Republic!!
The reason why I said that is because……!! It’s the series related with the ‘colors’!! Well, let’s take a look at it! Here we go!

What Is Blue Period.?

Blue Period. is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yamaguchi Tsubasa-Sensei, which has been serialized since 2017. It’s been such a popular series with over three million copies of all the series sold and, collected in 10 tankōbon volumes.
This has been nominated from various manga awards and also collaborated with a famous company before an anime adaptation.
An anime television series adaptation will premiere in October 2021.
I remember featuring this series a year ago but it was already super popular back then too, right?
Right! Well, its anime series will finally kick off, huh……? Well, then let’s share a quick outline here!

Outline of Blue Period.!

The main protagonist, Yaguchi Yatora, is a high school student, who is “good at everything.”

The main protagonist of this story, Yaguchi Yatora, is a fairly popular student who ‘excels in school.’ His academic performance is always in top class, being able to understand the gist of anything he learns. He gets along well with anybody and can do anything without taking much time.
Due to such perfection, he always stays calm compared to other average students, right? Since he is capable of doing anything, he has never been into any specific things. He even asked ‘What’s the point of going to the art college? We have no guarantee that we will become successful after that!’ Yes, it looks like there are not such words as passion or effort in his dictionary, huh?

One day, Yatora happens to see a mysterious painting.
He deeply becomes fascinated and inspired by the masterpiece.

Yatora decides to take the art class only because he thinks he can get a credit even if he skips the classes. However, one day, he goes back to the art room all alone, because he has left something there. Then he sees a mysterious painting there.
It’s beautiful first off. And the colors used are amazing too. A pale green is used for the skin…… And it’s godly beautiful…… Yatora’s eyes are glued to the painting.
I can’t wait to see how this scene will be depicted in an anime series!

Painting “your favorite scenery.”
Then he focuses on the assignment from the art class.

One day, Yatora is told to submit the assignment to the art teacher.
The theme is “my favorite scenery.”
Yatora is first thinking of painting something like mountains or sea which the art teacher is likely to be fond of.
However, the art teacher gently advises to him.
“You can take a nap, do a half-way job in the art class.”
“But what I want from you is ‘your favorite scenery’.
Not the one someone seems to like but the one ‘YOU’ like.
While we don’t see any words in art, it becomes more fun if a ‘strong’ person creates it.”

Yataro faces “himself” for the first time.
Then he feels embarrassed to express his honest feelings.

The tip to make a smooth relationship with others is to please them as much as you can. Yatora, who didn’t know how to express himself, gradually starts to see how he feels.
For instance, I somehow like the town in the early morning……
His friend says it’s like a poem, then he feels embarrassed and somehow covers up what he has said. He feels even more embarrassed if what he says sounds funny to other people.
Thinking that way, Yatora goes to the art club again.
There, he sees a student who painted the mysterious painting. While the student seems embarrassed by Yatora’s compliment, the student denies it by saying that he is not talented.
To get rid of a little awkward atmosphere, Yatora tries to change the subject to the thing related art. He says to her that the town in the early morning which he saw the other day looked ‘blue’ to him.
Yatora feels embarrassed after saying that but the student gently tells him.
“If that looks blue to you,
then anything can look blue,
such as an apple or even a rabbit.”
Then Yatora goes back to his work of the assignment.
He spends more time than anybody else and works so seriously that he feels disappointed at his “incompetence” for the first time. For those who see his painting, the town in the early morning might now look “blue,” and they might even give a point, saying that the building is not blue in the first place.
But still, Yatora keeps working on his painting.

Although Blue Period. focuses on art, I really want those who are not familiar with art to read it as well. Yatora is always smart and clever, but that’s why he faces himself, not being able to improve himself, which moves us so much. It’s an interesting and great manga.
