What kind of story is Tsugihagi Hyoryu Sakka?

Tsugihagi Hyoryu Sakka is a manga series, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Vol 10~32, issued in 2006). It was the very first weekly serialized title for its manga artist, Nishi Kouhei. Through this title, he started to publish more and more one-shot comics or serialized titles from various publish companies.
Oh, wow. I’ve never heard of this title! Maybe I just don’t recall it because it’s quite an old title (2006)……?
Yeah! Actually, this series is a short one, concluded only with three volumes (books) too !
Alright then, let me share the outline!

Outline of Tsugihagi Hyoryu Sakka!

The story is set in a certain world.
In that world, 95% of the publications were dominated by “Hyoryuroku” (wanderer’s log).
Hyoryuroku was highly rated and accepted by various people: the writers get wealth such as fame or royalties, people get entertained and the scholars get them as precious academic resources. The more they discover undiscovered land, the more they get popular.
One day, a young boy visits the publishing company.
His name is Kibino Makibi, and he seeks to get his Hyoryuroku published.
Meanwhile, the editor from one of the publishing companies in town is seeking for a promising writer.
The editor’s name is Mitsune. She is looking for the writer, who is just like “Fuhito”, who has written a legendary Hyoryuroku, where he has had them rewrite the world map again and again. By doing so, Fuhito has attracted the whole world.
The writer who seeks to get his Hyoryuroku published and the editor who seeks for a promising writer…… They met in town by accident.
While Makibi asks Mitsune to publish his Hyoryuroku, Mitsune turns it down. That’s because her company’s sales have been off, and it’s even one of the worst in town, meaning all she wants is a real masterpiece like “Fuhito” that attracts people. Whenever Hyoryuroku is published, the writer always “has to have” a licensed person as an editor and have his/her examine it to see if it doesn’t have any false information.
Makibi is still trying to hear what he says anyway and when she heard the word, Fuhito, she reacts.
“I’m the disciple of Fuhito.”
Of course, Mitsune wouldn’t believe it. There is no way Makibi has even met Fuhito, who has been missing for years.
Right after that, Mitsune drops one of her books while she is getting in a tangle with a hood. The book is a miracle Hyoryuroku which has been printed and given to the only close people before Fuhito has disappeared.
The book is an amulet that Mitsune’s got from her late father. However, it’s an unpublished title by a legendary writer.
“If I sell that book, I will make money from it.” Thinking that, the hood is trying to steal Fuhito from Mitsune.
And Makibi repels the hood.
He uses martial arts, using an umbrella, which Fuhito has used before to beat him.
Makibi tells the hood that Hyoryuroku is not just the paper but it’s something beyond, which makes people smile, moves and inspires them.
And he declares that he is “the one who will go through all the unknown places and events” from the world. Mitsune finds potential as a writer from Makibi, hearing that.
Then Makibi drops something.
It’s exactly the same miracle Hyoryuroku by Fuhito as the one Mitsune has……!
I’ll bet on this little boy!
The Hyoryu Sakka, Makibi, and the struggling editor-in-chief’s adventure towards the “unknown places” now begins……!!
It’s an interesting setting but is concluded with only three volumes……? I’m sorry for that.
But the good thing is that we can read it through only with three volumes too! For those who got into it, go check it out from the link below!
