What is Inumarudashi about?

Inumarudashi is a gag manga written and illustrated by Koji Ohishi. The manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump by Shueisha from August 2008 to June 2012. All 182 chapters were later collected into a total of 11 volumes. In 2014, a 1-volume side story titled Chuu-2-gami Antenna was released in Weekly Young Jump by Shueisha.
The manga was also adapted into a 4-episode anime series, produced by indigo line and aired from June to July 2011 by Gathering Studio. A 3-minute per episode format was adapted for this series.
The story of Inumarudashi mainly revolves around kindergarten teacher – Ms. Yamada Tamako and her cute student Inumaru. Because of his wacky personality, Inumaru often causes lively and funny incidents all day long which turns Tamako’s daily life into total chaos. The simple art style along with its crude humor make Inumarudashi a perfect series for readers that enjoy the “old but gold” comedy manga. A very “problematic” first day!

The story of Inumarudashi started off with 22-year-old Yamada Tamako on her first day as a kindergarten teacher. This was her life-long dream and on that first day, Tamako was filled with happiness and anticipation.
On the school bus going around to pick up students, Tamako talked to the kids in her class and showed off her knowledge about characters in popular kid shows and games. She was determined to be the best teacher!
The last kids on the bus route was none other than Inumaru, a 4-year-old boy with big round eyes and no pants on! Tamako instantly realized that there was something wrong about this boy. Inumaru drank coffee, talked in weird references from Shonen Jump’s manga and definitely, firmly refused to wear pants.
At first, Tamako was flustered but she managed to regain her composure and thought that she must not use harsh attitude towards kids.
During breaktime, Tamako played with the children happily and from afar, Inumaru looked just like any other kids while playing catch and release. However, Tamako soon realized that Inumaru was chasing his friends in a rather scary manner.
When asking Mrs. Principal about Inumaru, Tamako received a shocking answer that, “Inu-kun is a super problem kid”.
At the end of morning class, Mrs. Principal came to help Tamako with the closing song. The kid on singing duty was Inumaru. He stood in front of the class with Tamako and started to sing.
The song started off normally but suddenly took a turn for the worse. Inumaru invented weird song lyrics and finished with a striking pose, which Tamako innocently followed suit. She regretfully stated that, “My life in kindergarten started like this”.
During lunch time, while the other kids brought cute bento boxes, Inumaru brought a portion of donabe claypot rice (a traditional Japanese dish). He even brought bottled drinks though it wasn’t allowed. Inumaru tried to place the bottles close together, intended to make out the word “Unko” (which means “poop” in Japanese). No matter how hard he tried, Inumaru couldn’t do it.
He started to cry and threw a tantrum. Tamako didn’t know the reason that made Inumaru cry so she offered some tea to calm him down. When Tamako set her tea bottle down, the characters “U”, “N” lined up perfectly with the character “KO” on Tamako’s bottle. Thus, “Unko” was made.
When it was time for afternoon exercise, the kids were all doing “tobibako” (a common exercise in Japanese school’s gym classes, where student jumps over stacks of wooden frame boxes). Everyone were jumping normally but when it was Inumaru’s turn, he somehow fell into the boxes in a super weird way. He insisted to jump again and even when succeeding, Inumaru still tripped and fell in the same pose.
During drawing time, Tamako took the whole class outside to sketch natural sceneries. While the other kids drew cute pictures of mountain and cloud, Inumaru went rather silent.
Tamako got curious and looked at his picture, she was shock at the super realistic portrait of Aoi Sora – a popular Japanese nude model. Inumaru apparently took the inspiration from blue sky and drew her since Aoi Sora’s name could be pronounced the same as the word “blue sky” in Japanese.
At the end of the day, when Tamako thought that she has finished dropping off all the kids at their houses, Inumaru showed up. He didn’t go home and hid on the bus because he forgot something at school. Tamako chased Inumaru around until he slipped off.
Finally, Tamako spotted Inumaru sitting in the school yard, he was holding the extra pudding cup that the kids got for lunch. A kitten was meowing next to him and Inumaru looked like he would give the pudding to the cat.
“He was not a bad kid after all”, Tamako smiled and thought to herself. Right then, Inumaru ate the entire pudding......
Read on as the wacky kindergartener Inumaru causes daily troubles and chaos for his teacher – the innocent Ms. Tamako!
