Kimagure Orange Road is a Japanese Shonen manga series written and illustrated by Izumi Matsumoto.

It was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump from 1984 to 1987, where it was collected into 18 Separate volumes. According to Jump Manga Circulation, this series had over 18 million copies in circulation for Japan only, making it one of the bestselling Jump manga series of all time.

The manga was adapted into one pilot episode, a 48-episode anime series animated by Studio Pierrot, 8 OVAs and two movies.

Kasuga Kyousuke belongs to a family of espers, who have to move a lot after they were seen using their esper powers in public. After shifting to their seventh town, Kasuga starts off hopeful that he would finally be living his life peacefully as a normal boy. Which, considering his family, seems like a faraway distant dream.

A day before he joins his new school, Kasuga is roaming around in a park where he comes across a cute girl whose straw hat he caught blowing away in the wind. He instantly finds her very attractive. Even though their meeting is short, they enjoy each other’s company.

The girl leaves after a while but lets him keep her straw hat as for some reason she thinks that it looks good on him.

The next day he joins his new school along with his two sisters, forbidding them to use their esper powers no matter what.

On his first day, Kasuga nearly sits in the class delinquent’s chair but gets instantly called out. He then however sits next to a boy named Komatsu. He quickly becomes friends with him. Komatsu tells Kasuga that the seat he nearly sat in belonged to Ayukawa Madoka who was playing hooky right now.

During recess Komatsu gives him a tour of the school campus. He goes about telling him that the school was lively because it had a Junior High, Senior High and a College all in one.

He also excitedly tells Kasuga about the greater girl’s ratio as compared to the boys, dropping a hint towards his perverted side. He goes on to show him about his type of girl which turn out to be Kasuga’s younger sister, Kurumi.

When school ends, Kasuga is happy that the first day went without any trouble. Just as he was ready to go home, his twin sister Manami comes over and tells him that Kurumi went to look for a club to join. Worried that she might end up using her powers, Kasuga runs off quickly to find her.

Meanwhile roaming around, Kurumi comes across some Junior High girls smoking at the back of the school. She lets out a scream that scares the girl’s.

One of the girls try to bully her, telling her not to mess with them.

Hearing Kurumi’s voice, Kasuga and Manami quickly hurry over to see what was going on, that is when he finds the girl from the park smoking as well. The girl gets surprised but denies that she knows him when her friend asks.

Kasuga learns that the girl he met in the park and the one infront of him right now was Ayukawa Madoka, the delinquent from class.

Ignoring Kasuga, Ayukawa goes on to light another cigarette. Not liking this act, Kasuga puts her cigarette out using his esper powers. His sister notices and tells him not to do it but he motions her to keep quiet.

Seeing that Ayukawa isn’t paying attention to him, Kasuga blurts out that she won’t have any healthy babies if she keeps smoking at her age.

As expected, Ayukawa gets flustered by this and ends up slapping Kasuga across the face.

She walks away, saying that's something a kid shouldn't say to a lady.

Kasuga keeps wondering who that girl really was.
