In the early evening, Shijima Azemichi is a 7th grader in middle school. He looked a little confused and tried to talk to a girl who is walking in front of him.

The girl said Azemichi without looking at him.

Azemichi asked her.

The girl, Yamamoto Mizuha, is Azemichi’s classmate at their cram school. However, she has to move to the Northeastern part of Japan where her grandparents live due to her parents’ divorce. So today is her last day at the cram school.

Mizuha told Azemichi, but he cannot tell her anything.

Azemichi gets nervous very quickly. He has never stood up in front of audience, He never made people laugh by saying something funny.

When he was not able to say anything, Mizuha looked back at him and said,

Mizuha was crying and this was the last conversation with her.

Two years later.

Azemichi was a high school junior. He was listening to TV while working at his desk in his room. After he heard someone’s name, he pumped his fists!

It has been two years since Mizuha moved. Azemichi has been thinking about Mizuha. He regretted that he could not make her smile that night. For the last two years, he has been posting his jokes on listeners’ participating programs of comedy shows on radio and TV. Since he has been posting his jokes regularly, people started calling him the funniest high school kid in Japan!

Suddenly, Azemichi’s father called him.

He quickly turned off his TV and hid everything related to jokes in his room.

His father came in.

Azemichi’s father is hoping for Azemichi to enter a superior university, then get a high-income stable job. So he is totally against Azemichi’s dream of getting into the comedy world.

He hid his joke postings for the shows on TV and radio. He never told anyone what happened when he said good-bye to Mizuha. His dream of being in the comedy world is a secret at home.

Azemichi was feeling a little guilty because his father trusts Azemichi and thinks he is studying hard. However, he cannot forget the face of Mizuha who was crying when they said good-bye to each other.

The next day.

Azemichi was appointed as a member of student council just because he is smart.

One of the members of student council, Hanamori, asked him about Highashikata Taiyou. Higashikata is the one who is supposed to do the comedy show on stage during school’s culture festival. The festival is sponsored by the student council, so they want Higashikata to do a good job on stage. However, at this point, he does not have any plans for the show.

Hanamori was worried about it since she is in charge of managing the stage performance.

Azemichi learned that Hanamori was a big fan of comedy shows and she knew about them as well.

Now, he decided to visit Higashikata’s class to meet with him in person. What Azemichi found was......

A weird looking person! Higashikata Taiyou was wearing a crazy headband with his name tag on top. He was seriously staring at a mirror on the desk

Surprised Azemichi slowly came up to him and talked to him.

Taiyou said to Azemichi.

Taiyou was looking for someone who can pursue entering two comedy competitions in Japan and aim to win together. He wants to find someone who is serious about their comedy and jokes.

Azemichi asked Taiyou.

Taiyou said, “Comedy is as important to me as my own life!”

Azemichi believed in Taiyou. He decided to help work on the paperwork for the stage performance in the culture festival on behalf of Taiyou. Azemichi told Taiyou to name your group (or pair), to find someone to be your partner, and to think about the jokes by the day of the festival.

Then, accidentally, Azemichi dropped USB memory sticks from his pen case. Many USB sticks were gifts from the TV and radio shows he sent his jokes to.

When Taiyou picked up one of the USB memory sticks, he noticed Azemichi’s pen name was written on it.

However, Azemichi gets nervous in front of many people. He can’t tell a joke or even talk loud in front of audience. Azemichi brought Taiyou to the rooftop of the school because not many people are around. He explained about himself to Taiyou.

It was because of Mizuha. He still thinks about what he could have told her that day. He has been seriously thinking what makes people laugh. Then, eventually, he was deep into the world of comedy. He also told Taiyo that he still wants to meet with Mizuha, but he gets nervous in front of people. He thinks that he cannot be a star on stage.

After talked about himself, Azemichi asked Taiyou.

Taiyou explained. There was a girl who Taiyou thought he could never make smile, but a guy told a joke and made her laugh out loud easily. It was like a miracle to Taiyou. Being funny or telling a joke looked really cool to Taiyou.

He formed a comedy duo with the guy, but soon after he passed away due to illness.

So their dream to compete in the two comedy competitions had to continue with Taiyou alone.

Azemichi was moved by Taiyou’s passion toward comedy. He realized it is what he really wants to do as well!

He has two obstacles - parental opposition and being badly nervous in front of people. He feels Taiyou’s past experience with his former partner weigh heavily.

What is going to happen to these two comedians!?
