【Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai】Adventure x Fantasy Over 47 million copies in circulation!!

Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai is a Japanese manga series written by Riki Sanjo and illustrated by Koji Inada. This manga is based on a popular video game franchise, Dragon Quest.

The manga series was serialized in Shueisha’s weekly Shounen Jump from October 1989 to December 1996. It’s 349 chapters were compiled into 37 separate volumes. The series has 47 million copies in circulation around the world, making it one of Shueisha’s best-selling manga.

An anime television series was also adapted by Toei Animation, from 1991 to 1992, consisting a total of 46 episodes. In 2020, another adaptation by TV Tokyo was also released. 3 anime films have also been released.

The story begins with a legend about, The Hero, who along with his party, defeated the Demon King, and saved the people.

We see Dai, the protagonist, running around the island, Delmorin Island, playing hero, when the Demon who raised him, Jii-Chan, comes and whacks him on the head with his stick.

As he sits there, with a bump on his head, talking to his friend, Gome-chan, he spots a ship headed towards the island. Thinking that they are heroes, he rushes towards the ship on a sea creature.

What he doesn’t realize, is that the people on the ship are not hero’s but bandits coming to capture and sell the rare creatures of the island.

As they land on the island, the woman tricks Dai into calling all of the island’s creatures. Dai makes a flute like sound with his fingers, calling everyone on the island.

Everyone comes except Gome-chan. Dai goes to find Gome-chan, but when he comes back, he sees the bandit’s slaughtering and capturing the Island creatures. They take Gome-chan from Dai and cast an explosion magic, giving them the time to escape.

Dai realizes that they were bandits all along, and decides to go after them and save Gome-chan. Jii-chan gives Dai a lot of Magic tubes containing different creatures for his help. He also gives Dai a special tube containing a mysterious creature, and tells him to only use it if absolutely necessary.

Dai summons Chimera, a winged creature, and heads toward the bandit ship, to save his friends.
