Bastard!! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy is a Japanese fantasy franchise created by Kazushi Hagiwara.

It’s chapters are compiled and published into 27 separate volumes. As of December 2021, 27 volumes have been released. The manga series has over 30 million copies in circulation, worldwide.

An OVA adaptation of the manga was also released in 1992, with the six-episode OVA adapted by AIC.

The Kingdom of Metallicana is under attack by the four Lords of Havoc. Due to these unprecedented circumstances, the high priest of the Kingdom asks his daughter to awaken Dark Schneider, from within the body of a 14-year-old boy.

We start off with a scene of Osborn and the treacherous army attacking the Kingdom while the King is away. A girl, Tia Noto Yoko, who is the daughter of the high priest, is seen looking for a boy called Lu Che.

We are also introduced to Princes Sheela, who reveals that Lu Che was brought to the kingdom by the King after the war ended 15 years ago. We are shown that the high priest tells Yoko about a secret spell that releases an ancient magician from his prison into a human soul. And for this spell to work a kiss for a virgin girl is needed.

The enemy’s forces reach the temple’s door. The few knights can’t hold them back. Then the princess orders Yoko to release the imprisoned magician. She refuses to do something embarrassing but just then the enemies break into the room.

The ministers had betrayed the kingdom and sided with Osborn. Osborn comes to attack Princess Sheela with Giants by his side. Yoko is still hesitant to kiss Lu Che to release the magician. Just then, Lu Che pushes Yoko out of harms way and gets injured while saving her. This convinces Yoko to use the spell and kiss Lu Che.

Lu Che reawakens as the Dark Schneider. He generates an explosion that kills the giants as if they were nothing.

Lu Che reveals that he is both himself and Dark Schneider now. He refuses to chase away the monsters and instead declares that he will only save Yoko and the rest can die for all he cares.

Yoko convinces Lu Che to save everyone. He admits that he owes Yoko for saving him and agrees. He releases a powerful spell and attacks everyone at once.

Osborn attacks with his strongest spell in return. He is confident that he has killed Lu Che, but Lu Che is unscathed.

Lu Che responds with such a powerful spell that Osborn disintegrates. The treacherous army flees without a leader.

The king thanks Yoko and Lu Che for saving the kingdom and hosts a party to celebrate their victory.

After the party, Lu Che reveals to Yoko that he plans to kill her father so that he could revive his magical army and take over the world. Lu Che holds Yoko and goes in for a kiss, but suddenly Lu Che reverts back to his original form. A virgin’s kiss also undo’s the transformation.

Yoko thinks to herself that maybe it’s better this way.
