Those Obnoxious Aliens (Urusei Yatsura)

What’s the story?

An alien race, known as the Oni, arrive to invade the Earth, giving the humans one chance to defend their planet. Ataru Moroboshi is selected at random to play a game of tag with Lum, the Oni’s princess. He must win to save the planet.
The chapter opens up with Ataru being dumped by his girlfriend. As he’s standing by the bridge, an old man hurriedly approaches him thinking that he’s going to jump off, accidentally pushing him into the river instead. The old man tells Ataru that he sees the shadow of death on his back and persuades him not to go home or something terrible will happen to him.
As Ataru approaches his home, he notices a swarm of news reporters gathering outside, telling him that he is the focus of the entire world right now. His mother brings him in to explain the situation, and he discovers an actual alien inside his house. The aliens explain how Ataru was chosen at random to play tag with their princess, Lum, in order to save his world from invasion.
The alien adds that the match will last 10 days, and that in order to win, Ataru must touch Lum's horns during that period.
As Ataru and Lum prepare to begin the game, the entire world is watching. The match begins and Lum starts to float and effortlessly escapes Ataru. Surprised by this, he runs after her but she is too high for him to catch. The first five days pass with Ataru making no progress at all, while the public expresses their displeasure with him.
On the seventh day, Lum gets a bit tired and Ataru manages to seize Lum and takes her bra, only for her to flee once more. Lum shows up at Ataru's house the following night, demanding her clothes back. Ataru rejects, as Lum promises to get revenge for the shame he caused her. Ataru tries his hardest the next day to capture Lum because her jumping is limited due to her use of her hands to conceal her body. Despite this, he is unable to touch Lum's horns and another day comes to an end.
Hikaru's ex girlfriend shows up at his house. Out of nowhere, she offers to marry him if he wins, boosting his spirit off the charts.
The final match begins, Ataru entices Lum to approach him by displaying her bra he tore off. Lum tries to take back her bra, but motivated to marry his girlfriend, Ataru finally grabs hold of her, touching her horns. Ataru exclaims that he can finally marry her, referring to her girlfriend, as everyone celebrates his victory. Lum on the other hand, misunderstands the suggestion and instead answers yes.
Lum tells that if he wants to marry her, he must travel to her planet. As they prepare to take Ataru away for the wedding, she and her father grab a hold of him. Shinobu, his girlfriend, looks sad as the crowd applauds the happy ending.
What awaits Ataru now that the circumstances have changed and he has successfully saved the Earth?
