【City Hunter】Action x Comedy Over 50 million copies in circulation!! It just keeps getting Interesting!!

City Hunter is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tsukasa Hojo.

The series was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump from 1985 to 1991. It’s 191 chapters are compiled and collected into 35 separate volumes. By 2016, the series had over 50 million copies in circulation, worldwide. A spin-off series called Angel Hearts was also serialized.

The series got its anime adaptation by Sunrise Studio in 1987, consisting of 51 episodes. Numerous adaptations and spin-off series are also included in this franchise.

After her lover who is also a pro boxer gets shot and killed, Iwasaki Megumi, a 27 year old Doctor, contacts Ryo Saeba, a Sweeper/Mercenary, to find and put his killer to death.

Ryo and Megumi meet in a bar where she explains to him that with his dying breath, Shun told her that Inagaki, a fellow pro boxer, was threat calling him to quit boxing.

Ryo asks why she didn’t call the police, to which she replies “ The Police will take too much time to prosecute him. I don’t have time for that...... I have Cancer”

As payment for this job, Megumi is willing to make Ryo the beneficiary of her 30 million yen insurance money. Ryo accepts.

To confirm Megumi’s story, Ryo follows the current Champion, believing that if Inagaki is the killer than he will threaten The Champion as well.

Surely, Inagaki appears and puts a knife to The Champions neck, threatening him to lose the match in the 3rd round, else he will kill his daughter. The Champion has no choice but to accept.

The match begins, The Champion has no choice but to take Inagaki’s punches and wait for the 3rd round to fall down.

Ryo is present in the hall to finish his job and kill Inagaki. He has prepared a golden bullet to shoot in his ear and make it look like a knock out.

Inagaki tells The Champion to throw a few punches to not make it look like as if he’s throwing away the match. As soon as The Champion throws a right hook, under the loud cheer of the crowd, Ryo shoots his golden bullet right through Inagaki’s ear, making it look like a clear knock out punch.

After the match, Megumi gives Ryo the insurance papers as promised, Ryo tears them up saying that “ As promised, I am going to take your life, not the money. Become my lover, for as long as you live...... “.

Moved by this gesture, Megumi hugs Ryo.
