Dragon Ball is a Japanese media franchise created by Akira Toriyama in 1984.

The manga was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump from 1984 to 1995, with the 519 chapters collected into 42 separate volumes by its publisher, Shueisha.

Dragon Ball is one of the most popular franchises, with more than 250-350 million copies in circulation, worldwide, making it the best-selling manga in history. A sequel named, Dragon Ball Super, was also published, which was written by Toriyama and illustrated by Toyotarou.

The manga starts of by showing our protagonist, Son Goku, training outside his home and chopping wood in the process.

After his training, he goes in to pray to his late grandpa, Gohan, through his memento, a four star Dragon Ball.

He then goes off to catch some fish is the river.

He manages to catch a huge fish and is happily carrying it back home, when a car approaches him from the back and slams into him.

Goku has never left the forest before, he think that the car is a monster trying to steal his fish.

Goku picks up the car and slams it into the ground.

From the car, emerges a young lady, Bulma, who after seeing Goku’s strengh, is afraid of him and takes out her gun to shoot Goku.

Her jaw drops when the bullet deflects right off Goku.

Goku then checks out Bulma, as he has never seen a women before.

Bulma doesn’t like Goku but thinks that his strength might come in handy.

Goku then takes Bulma home with him, where she sees the four star Dragon Ball and tries to take it.

Goku doesn’t want Bulma to take his Grandpa’s memento.

Bulma then explains to Goku that the memento is actually a Dragon Ball and if someone collects all seven of the balls, a Legendary dragon, Shenlong, emerges and grants them any one wish.

Goku let’s Bulma have the dragon ball, but only if she takes him with her.

Bulma thinks that Goku’s strength might come in handy and agrees to take him with her.

Goku is bewildered when Bulma takes out a capsule from her purse and throws it, it turns into a bike.

And thus begins their amazing journey to find all seven of the dragon balls and summon Shenlong.
