What is Aoashi?

Aoashi is a manga that is written and illustrated by a manga artist, Kobayashi Yugo-sensei since 2015. The theme of manga is about the student youth teams of the Japan professional soccer league. Currently, 25 volumes of tankobon are released so far.
Blue Lock will be made into anime as well. So it seems that we can enjoy soccer manga well in 2022!
Blue Lock is about a competition between professional soccer player candidates to be selected as the only striker on the team. Aoashi is also about professional soccer player candidates, but how it would be different from Blue Lock. What kind of story is it?

Aoashi – What kind of story is it?

The main character, Aoi Ashito is a middle schooler living in Ehime, Japan.

The story takes place in Ehime, Japan, which is located between the ocean and mountains.
The main character, Aoi Ashito, was playing soccer at a regional pre-league for getting into national competition. His ability to play soccer is overwhelmingly high, and everyone expected that his team will win the regional league games......however......
A player from the opponent team got frustrated when they were losing and started being provocative. Ashito lashed out violently at him in anger, then got a penalty of course. The team lost because Ashito was sent off.
One guy was watching over them from the stands. Ashito was almost being admitted to a high school that evaluated his great skills in soccer on a sports referral, but they declined him due to his immature behavior in the game.
Ashito was a very honest kid since he was little.
Sometimes it seemed a little too much. He always spoke straight. He does not hesitate to say that he can do it if he thinks he can. Because he is such an outspoken person, sometimes people do not like him. However, his team members always accept him with smiles.

After the disappointing game, the guy in the stands encountered him at the beach.

After few hours, Ashito’s family started worring about him not coming back home.
In the meantime, the boy who was being provocative in the game, came to Ashito’s house with his parents.
The boy from the opposing team apologized to Ashito’s parent. He said that Ashito was calm no matter what bad things he said about him, but he started becoming furious when the boy insulted his family and teammates.
The opposing team wanted to win desperately, so the boy decided to be provocative. He admitted that he was completely wrong and came to apologize to him and his family.
On the other hand, Ashito was still playing hard to win the challenge – putting the ball in the circles at the beach with the guy.
The guy asked Ashito, “How come you can pick up the ball for such a long time?”
Other spectators of the game were saying it was as if Ashito was playing soccer only by himself. The guy also noticed Ashito’s amazing ability to keep the ball for such a long time.
Ashito was trusted by team members, so everyone wants to pass him. However he was holding the ball way too long during the game. Why is that?
Ashito wanted to focus on the challenge, but the guy kept talking to Ashito. So Ashito started telling him that he was always observing everyone on the team and just trying to find the best spot to be in the game.
Toward the end of the game, his teammates’ motivation and physical fitness were getting low, but the opponent had a perfect lineup and his team did not seem to have a chance. However, Ashito found the perfect spot to attack, then the ball was there to shoot. Ashito explained that was it and nothing more than that.
He is aware of his ability to make a decision quickly, but he also knows reality.
The person who should be praised is not me who scored, but the teammates who passed the ball to keep it like hell. Ashito told the guy the goal was made by everyone, not only myself.
The guy was in shock. He thought Ashito was playing freely for himself. That is why he could keep the ball such a long time. His teammates tried hard to bring the ball to him.
However, the reality was the opposite. Ashito was the one who realized where his teammates want him to be, and runs there to receive the ball. Ashito watches his teammates more than anyone else to respond to their needs for him.
The guy was laughing. Ashito even felt scared of him.
Finally almost at sunrise, Ashito could complete the challenge. He learned the technique and showed his presice ball control.
The guy introduced himself officially.
His name is Fukuda Tatsuya. He used to be a member of the national soccer team and is now working as a coach for one of Japan’s prominent youth teams.
Tatsuya told Ashito that he wanted to cultivate a team to become the top of world soccer someday. To make the dream come true, he asked Ashito to join his team.
The goal of the story is the same – top of the soccer world, but Blue Lock and Aoashi seem to take a different path.
