It’s a Japanese comedy manga series, written by Hebizou-Sensei and Suzuki Tsuta-Sensei (illustrated by Tarako-Sensei). This series was made when these two writers thought “This kind of story might be interesting~!”. The editor heard the idea and they all decided to make this series. The illustrator, Tarako-Sensei loves to draw animals or insects, so when she was chosen to be the illustrator of this series, she was very happy, saying “Now I can have an excuse to buy the annual passport of my favorite zoo!”

It’s been serialized in “Monthly Morning Two” since March 2017 and five volumes of manga have been currently released. An anime television series adaptation will premiere in January 2021 as well. It will go viral even more!

So! In “Heaven’s Animal Design Department,” designers create a variety of new animals daily while contending with the unreasonable requests of their client; God. God could do everything without any difficulties but there were so many kinds of animals that God requested to them to design and create all the animals.

Okay, what was requested by God this time…… the design of “the animal that can eat leaves from somewhere high.” There are three ideas that came up from the staff. First one is this.

Pegasus.

The newbie, Shimoda likes the idea very much, saying “it’s awesome!” but other staff don’t look satisfied at all. The old man with glasses shown above is the head of the office and is a great designer, who has designed a horse. However, since then, he tends to create an animal with the base of the horse. Therefore, again, all the staff look tired of the horse-like animal, saying “A horse again, huh?”

The next idea is Ping Pong Tree.

It’s Mizushima (a young ace)’s idea, and he seems so satisfied with the idea. Since it didn’t have to be the mammals, he has thought of the unique design but…… how it moves doesn’t even look like a creature.

The way it preys is unique for sure but it looks just like the carnivorous plant that eats so fast and doesn’t look pretty at all…… Like this, some other designers complain about his idea after all.

And the last one is…… Long-Neck Deer.

“God said it’s the animal that can eat grass somewhere high, right? Then the one with a long neck is the best, no?” Saying that, Unabara, who usually comes up with the classic ideas, shows the design. What a sloppy idea~! Other designer think in their mind but anyhow, they decide to bring these three ideas to the “trial room.”

Then a terrifying-looking woman comes out from the “trial room.” Shimoda seems scared.

Her name is Tsuchiya and she is an engineer, who inspects the animals to see if each of them functions normally. Tsuchiya gets angry at the head because he has brought the Pegasus again, which has been turned down before. “Do you really think this huge animal can fly~?” She shouts at him.

Pegasus requires a big muscle to move the wings.

First of all, it’s not made to fly and if we want them to play actively, then they have to eat lots of grass to get the energies, ending up dripping horse dung from the sky.

And as for the Ping Pong Tree…… It’s not bad but it’s turned down because it’s not durable enough to resist the gravity with the current design. The last one is ……a Long-Neck Deer but……

The deer feels dizzy and falls down when they extend its neck to 10 meters. The deer with a 10-meter neck would need 1.5 tons heart so the blood can be sent to its head, in the first place. Anyhow, they find out it would feel dizzy with the current design. Shimoda cries, not wanting to create such a poor creature.

However, other designers start to suggest a new idea, thinking it might be possible if they change a function a little. As a result, they extend the legs a little longer and make the neck shorter, instead. That way, it would able to eat grass and drink water too, minimizing the work by the heart and staying healthy.

Then a Long-Neck Deer is completed.

Lastly, they decide to put the horn on it to save its head since it became defenseless by having its neck longer, and also put the unique hair on it since it would be too simple if it doesn’t have any patterns.

The design, the function and uniqueness……!
God, who has requested, seemed very satisfied too!

So! It’s adopted! A heavenly revelation is completed by the angels who designed it!

This is how the Long-Neck Deer…… as we call, a giraffe, was created! Congrats!

When they operate the giraffe, though, it lacks the protein so it ends up eating small animals or birds too but it’s okay after all! Oh, yeah! As for the Ping Pong Tree, God really liked it so it’s adopted not on land but in the deep sea. Congrats to this too!
