【Summer Anime】No confidence in her looks. So, what kind of love would help such a girl gain confidence? A rom-com, but with a touch of realism! Busu ni Hanataba wo.

2025-09-03
Tabata Hana, a high school girl, believed that a sweet, shojo-manga-like romance would never happen to her. She had a deep complex about her looks and struggled with social interactions. Her only joy was replacing the flowers in the classroom vase every morning, a brief moment where she could forget reality. But one day, while absorbed in her flowers, she was spotted by Ueno Yousuke, the class’s top popular boy. Convinced her life was “completely over......!”, Hana despairs—yet unexpectedly, this encounter becomes the catalyst that begins to expand her world little by little.
What makes this work fascinating is that it goes beyond being “just a rom-com.” Hana, at the bottom of the class caste, and Yousuke, at the very top, are two people who normally would never cross paths. Yet the way their distance gradually closes feels natural and warm, like a flower slowly blooming. As their relationship develops, other classmates also begin to open their hearts. This manga delicately portrays realistic characterizations and the value of human connection, weaving in both humor and heartfelt moments.
As the story progresses, characters like Shinbashi-kun—initially seen as “just an annoying extra”—and Uguisudani-san—the “romantic rival”—reveal unexpected sides of themselves. They are portrayed not as mere side characters, but as figures who gently, and sometimes strictly, support Hana and Yousuke’s growth, adding depth to the overall story. Particularly noteworthy is Yousuke’s younger brother, whose character is hilariously entertaining and brings a unique rhythm and warmth to the narrative.
