【Summer Anime】 Ugly. And that’s what makes him the strongest. Busamen Gachi Fighter!

If you think “Oh, another isekai story......” and start reading, “Busamen Gachi Fighter” will surprise you in the best way. The protagonist, Yoshioka Shigeru, had his life ruined by a false accusation before reincarnation, and chooses an unprecedented setup—making himself an “ugly guy with -255 looks”—to venture into another world. That setting pays off with a bonus point total exceeding a quadrillion!? After allocating one trillion points to each RPG-style stat, his class becomes “Absolute God.” The concept is hilarious from the start, yet tinged with sorrow—the balance is what makes it so compelling. Though his appearance is unfortunate and he’s slightly jaded, deep down he’s a truly good guy. The more you read, the more you want to root for him.
Shigeru’s biggest weakness is that his HP drops when he touches girls. He’s god-tier in combat, but contact with girls is a fatal blow—what’s up with that!? At first it’s laughable, but this limitation actually emphasizes his humanity, which is what makes it so interesting. Normally, this would turn into a “I’m overpowered, woohoo!!” story, but Shigeru is so cautious that he prefers to travel alone and genuinely struggles with interpersonal relationships. Then he meets Seika, Seiji, and Lise—fellow companions from Japan—and although he keeps his distance at first, the gradual connection is heartwarming. Even when he knows he shouldn't form a party, he can’t abandon a comrade in need. That’s the charm of Shigeru—not just another cheat character.
What impressed me most about this work is how the protagonist is clearly portrayed as “ugly,” yet never comes across as unpleasant. In fact, as you keep watching, you start to feel like, “Isn’t he actually the most handsome of all?” Despite his blank expression and calm demeanor, his internal commentary is full of jokes and witty remarks—it’s oddly cute and genuinely funny. His inner monologue is so charming it makes you want to respond. And none of his party members judge him by appearance. On the contrary, they all seem to carry some “darkness” within, and their depth and openness to others beyond first impressions is truly refreshing. Each character has quirks, but none are annoying. The atmosphere is just so pleasant to read.
A story of the Absolute God—strongest, yet untouchable, and burdened with loneliness. “Busamen Gachi Fighter” is not just funny—it’s also a powerful tale of human weakness, kindness, and rebirth. It combines the thrill of adventure and battles with the warmth of awkward love and genuine friendship, leaving you eager to see what happens next. Through Shigeru, we’re shown what it really means to be “cool”—unbound by appearances. Be sure to witness it for yourself.
