Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. is a school story that depicts the communication between a slightly shy girl attending a certain high school, her classmates, and various friends.

The heroine of the story, Komi-san, is admired as a Madonna by those around her due to her overwhelming beauty. Her personality is also super cool and quiet. She is admired by both boys and girls alike.

But in reality, she’s an extremely shy girl. It’s not that she doesn’t talk because she’s cool, but because she gets so nervous that she can’t speak at all when she tries. One day, her classmate Tadano happens to learn about Komi-san’s true personality.

Komi-san becomes unable to speak when she’s nervous. To communicate with her, Tadano-kun suggests writing messages on the chalkboard.

The two slowly begin to have conversations. Through the words written on the chalkboard, Tadano-kun discovers that Komi-san actually wishes to change her shy personality and make friends.

Her goal is to make 100 friends, just like in the old Japanese nursery rhyme.

Tadano-kun learns of her wish and promises to support her. And at the same time, he wants to be her very first friend.

In this way, Komi-san gradually begins to change herself, meeting various people and increasing the number of those who become her friends. As the story progresses, she carefully keeps track of how many friends she has made.

Komi-san and Tadano-kun, as students, finally graduate. It’s a graduation ceremony that they surely couldn’t have reached without meeting and understanding each other.
