The story takes place in England around the end of the 19th century.

England was governed by Queen Victoria and considered to be the most industrially developed country with many colonies all over the world.

One prestigious English noble, the Phantomhive family’s head, Ciel Phantomhive employs a butler, Sebastian Michaelis. He is well educated, good at cooking, and excellent in martial arts. He always helps other employees such as Mey-Rin who has bad eyesight and is a walking disaster, Finnian who is a strong gardener, and Baldroy who is a frivolous American chef. Among all, he is the perfect butler.

Ciel, the head of family, is just a 12 year-old boy. However, as a Count, he protects people’s lives in his territory, works as a CEO of Funtom corporation, the largest toy maker in England, and fulfills the duty of being the Queens’ watch dog which the Phantomhive family inherited for generations. Sebastian is loyal to Ciel and helps Ciel tremendously.

Other nobles who visit the family always praise Sebastian, but he always answers,

The Phantomhive family has had the duty of being the “Queens’ watch dog” for generations. The job is to support the government by controlling the underground world. Sometimes it’s a dangerous and dirty job. Ciel works for the job ruthlessly as the head of the “villain” nobles and Sebastian helps him as well.

As a Count, Ciel works from the both front and back stages. Even though he is just a 12 year-old boy, he showed his ability to work perfectly like a superman. Sebastian devotedly supports Ciel. Why is that?

There is only one answer for it.

Sebastian is a devil who made a contract with Ciel. Sebastian will help Ciel’s dream come true. In return, Sebastian will eat Ciel’s soul when Ciel’s dream is fulfilled.

3 years before the story began, someone attacked the Phantomhive family. Vincent Phantomhive, who was the head of family and Ciel’s father, and Rachel Phantomhive, who was Ciel’s mother, and their servants were all slaughtered.

9 year-old Ciel was taken and sold to a religious group that worshipped the devil. Sebastian saw that Ciel was upset and swearing to avenge his family’s death. He got interested in Ciel and offered to make a contract with Ciel in order to make his dream come true.

Ciel said, “I will avenge my family’s death. I will find who did this to my family.”

Sebastian agreed to help his revenge, but in return, he demanded Ciel’s soul.

Ciel was too young to be a Count. Sebastian was not helpful as a butler at first, but they both made the effort to become a perfect Count and a perfect butler.

They try to control the underground world in England and also find the chance to avenge the death of Ciel’s family.

Their destiny keeps moving forward while history was also moving dramatically.
