What's the story?

In the beginning of the chapter, when his teacher inquires about his future plans, Kyu, the protagonist of the story, tells her that he wants to be a detective. His friends are startled when he tells them that he will not be taking the admission tests and instead will go to a detective school.
While his friends take it as a joke, he notices a poster on the hall window and finds it odd. He notices that the edges of the poster are a little torn, he looks down and finds a small piece of glass, and using his detective skills, deduce that the poster was here to cover up the broken window behind it. He then removes the poster, proving his deduction and amazing his friends.
Kyu reveals that he will be entering the Dan Detective School, a specialised school for detectives, and departs to take the admission exam. On his way, he collides with a man, causing the man's wallet to fall to the ground and disperse money.
The man finds a bill missing and accusing Kyu of hiding the bill, reports him to the police. While this is going down, a young girl comes up and informs the cops of the precise quantity that had fallen on the floor. Kyu takes the man’s umbrella and opens it. The missing bill was in the umbrella.
The girl introduces herself as Minami Megumi, and tells Kyu that she has a photographic memory. She is impressed with Kyu’s skills to ascertain where the missing bill was and Kyu brushes it off as being nothing special. The two realize that they were both giving the exam for the Detective School.
Megumi explains to Kyu that each year thousands of candidates apply to the school, but only a handful of them get selected. Instead of becoming discouraged, Kyu becomes even more enthused.
The two walk into the exam room, which is jam-packed with candidates who have all come to take the test.
Sabu Roumaru, a Tokyo University student and Megumi's friend, approaches her in the hall. Kyu shakes his hand, and the lights go out, signaling the start of the exam.
For a few seconds, the candidates are shown an image of a real homicide scene.
The candidates are given a more detailed explanation of the situation and are shown additional images. From the many images, Kyu instantly identifies what happened and discusses it with Megumi. The examiners, dressed as the suspects, suddenly appear on stage.
Megumi and Sabu are busy discussing who the murderer is when Kyu realizes who it is. Another candidate, Kintarou, who seems to be using a dice to determine his answers, interrupts them and claims to have figured it out as well.
The candidates are instructed to follow the individual they believe is the culprit.
The group tails suspect number 3 and follows him throughout the city. Using her photographic memory, Megumi notices the suspect trying to escape disguised as someone else, and runs after her. The number of people now tailing suspect three reduced drastically as he kept shaking people off, but Kyu and the others were still on his tail.
Kintarou utilizes his keen vision to notice the suspect purchasing a 190 Yen rail ticket. Because the ticket pricing didn't match up, Kyu deduces that the suspect is merely pretending to board the train and convinces Megumi to stay with him.
Everyone else has boarded, leaving Kyu, Megumi, Kintarou, Sabu, and a brilliant programmer youngster behind. As they all follow the suspect who stayed behind, Kyu recognizes that the people with him are all excellent detectives, each with there unique strengths.
What awaits them at the next stage of the exam?
