【Jujutsu Kaisen (Sorcery Fight)】We Are in the Digital Society! That’s Why We Want You to Read the “Paper”-Version Manga!

2020-06-02
Hello, everybody! It’s Hana from Manga Republic.
This is the Vol. 2 of this series, where I share my recommended Physical Manga and the reason why I recommend! For the previous article, I featured “Haikyuu!!” and today…… I picked out THIS!
It’s ‘Jujutsu Kaisen (Sorcery Fight)’! Its Anime will be air in October this year and it’s been getting more and more popular now!
But! I bet many of you might not know about this title yet!!
So I’ll start off this for you today!
Two Minutes, and You’ll Know What ‘Jujutsu Kaisen (Sorcery Fight)’ is like!!!
‘Jujutsu Kaisen (Sorcery Fight)’ is a dark fantasy battle manga, depicting the battle of sorcerers, who purify monsters or curse, created by humans’ negative emotions such as “anger” or “regret”.
In June, 2018. A 1st grader high school boy, Itadori Yuuji, who lived in Sendai-shi, Miyagi Prefecture, had an outstanding physical strength. He had a normal high school life but since he had to visit his grandfather at the hospital, who has raised him, he joined the Occult Club, which was not that active as a club.
One day,
When Itadori visited his grandfather as usual, his grandfather instilled two powerful messages within Yuuji: “You’re strong. Always help people.” And “Die surrounded by a crowd. Don’t become like me.” and died.
That night, after Itadori finished the paperwork at the hospital, Fushiguro Megumi, who goes to a high school (exclusive for the sorcerers), named Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College, showed up in front of him and said “Give me the cursed charms that you have.”
First, Itadori had no idea what he was talking about but as he continued to hear what he said, he realized that it was the thing which he found at school a couple days ago. It looked like a finger with a tag on it. And he also remembered that two Occult Club’s members who were older than him, were trying to unseal the tag.
Fushiguro told him that the cursed charms that he got was classified as the highest-grade curse and called “King of Curses.” After Ryōmen Sukuna had died, his fingers became Cursed Objects like that. What’s worse, it was so poisonous that normal human would die just by toughing it.
Itadori, who realized that those two members of the Occult Club were dangerous, headed for school with him. However, when they arrived at school, those two members of the Occult Club had been attacked by the curses that came from the finger.
They thought “the curses could be purified only by the curse” and tried to help them, using his curse power with Fushiguro as he was told by his grandfather but before he noticed, Fushiguro became unable to fight anymore.
Itadori, then, tried swallowing Ryōmen Sukuna’s finger so he can use the power, to save the two members and Fushiguro. Itadori, who was thought to be dead after he swallowed Sukuna’s poisonous finger, had resistance to the curse, and the high-grade curse, Ryōmen Sukuna, was revived, using his body.
Itadori thought that he would be possessed by him but he was able to defend himself by holding down Sukuna. Fushiguro had contacted with Gojou Satoru, a teacher at Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College, who was also known as the strongest sorcerer earlier, so Gojou settled down that incident.
However, the executives of the sorcerers were afraid of the revived Ryōmen Sukuna and they thought that they would be able to kill Sukuna by killing Itadori. Therefore, they decided to execute Itadori.
However, Gojou missed Itadori’s death since Itadori was able to hold down the high-grade curse, Ryōmen Sukuna. Therefore, Gojou suggested that Itadori should swallow all the 20 fingers of Sukuna and have him reside in his body, then they should finally kill the perfectly revived Sukuna. And everybody accepted his suggestion.
“You have two options.” “Die right away or find Sukuna completely, swallowed them all and die.” “Pick whichever hell you like.” Gojou suggested to Itadori.
He thought it would be unreasonable that he would be executed either way but he never wanted to regret and wanted to do what his grandfather told him, therefore, he decided to accept Gojou’s suggestion. Itadori transferred to Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College and prepared for swallowing all Sukuna’s fingers, while learning the curse and fighting with his classmates, Fushiguro and Kugisaki Nobara.
It was a quick outline.
The main character, Itadori, will fight against various curses, along with sorcerers such as Fushiguro…… And here’s one of the reasons why I want you guys to read ‘Jujutsu Kaisen (Sorcery Fight)’ through Physical Manga!

It has the most intense action expressions
among all the Jump Comics!!!

Following other dark fantasy-type Jump Comics such as ‘Yu Yu Hakusho’ or ‘Bleach’, ‘Jujutsu Kaisen (Sorcery Fight)’ is also super attractive! The best part of it is that its action scenes are intense and super cool!!!!!!
We see the words Jujutsu in the title already and on top of that, we hear that we can see intense action scenes. Then we might think that ‘the characters will fight using a weird power in a weird way……?’ However, you have to know that this title, ‘Jujutsu Kaisen (Sorcery Fight)’ is an action Manga, having two scenes together; an action scene, where they use the Jujutsu (curse’s power) and an action scene, where they use martial arts for the hand-to-hand battles!!!
Of course, we can enjoy those expressions through Digital Manga but when it comes to watching those action scenes through Physical Manga, it’s more powerful, compared to Digital, where you see them through filters of a smartphone, a tablet or a computer!!
So today! I, who have read ‘Jujutsu Kaisen (Sorcery Fight)’ both through Digital and Physical Manga, will share three action scenes, which I really want you to read by ‘paper’!

1 : Episode 14
“Assault”
Vol. 2

Let’s start off from this scene!
This is the scene, where Itadori’s homeroom teacher, Gojou Satoru, who thinks he is the ‘strongest’, and the earth curse, Jogo, fight against each other!
Gojou holds both immense amounts of curse power and a dangerously powerful technique. He has also demonstrated himself capable of utilizing Territorial Expansion, where he controls the distance between the objects and himself and attacks or stops the object so he can defend himself. He can even float the air by controlling the distance between him and the air.
Additionally, he has great physical strength to fight against powerful curses without problems.
Literally, he is the “strongest”. And that’s Gojou Satoru.
This is Gojou, who overwhelmed Jogo with the earth curse, by attacking him with his curse power and martial arts.
The third picture is one of my favorite scenes!
Jogo, who still tried to attack after being badly blown away by Gojou’s curse power, is definitely powerful too but Gojou took his back and kicked his head before Jogo even imagined. His physical strength is amazing.
He also has agility, and the way he carries himself is good. He has a high ability as a sorcerer. Everything about him overwhelms opponents. This scene showed us such an overwhelming him……!
There’s no way we cannot admit that Gojou Satoru is the strongest, if we see these scenes, huh……lol
Alright, in Episode 14, there will be the battle after this, where he uses the top curse power, Domain expansion. There, you will see his face without the blindfold too! Check it out!!!!!
Also, in Vol. 8 and 9 of the comics, the two events where you see why Gojou became the strongest sorcerer as the past version too. It’s full of intense action scenes as well so check them out too, along with Vol.2!

2 : Episode 58
“The Origin of Obedience”
Vol. 7

So the next one I’m sharing is the battle scene of Fushiguro Megumi in Comics, Vol. 7!
The classmates, Itadori, Fushiguro and Kugizaki, snuck into the energy barrier, full of curses. But then, the curse, Kusouzu showed up all of a sudden and separated them all.
Fushiguro, who was left behind in the energy barrier, tried to fight, using Shikigami (mediating his shadow), ended up being passed out after being attacked so many times.
“This is it.” Fushiguro was going to use his best card but he suddenly remembered the words, which were given to him when he fought against Sukuna, who possessed Itadori’s body in July, when three of them headed for the duty at the juvie: “You’re sitting on a gold mine, huh?” “Why did you run away that day?”
Even though they were in a tough situation, Fushiguro was the one who caused the problem, where Sukuna possessed Itadori’s body by leaving Itadori, who is extremely a good person, behind in the juvie.
Even though he couldn’t accomplish his aim “saving good people as much as possible from the reality where only unequal reality can give people equality, while good people who are deserved to be happy cannot be rewarded”, not being able to face himself, also being passed by Itadori, he finally was able to face himself, who had innate curse power and became a little stronger beyond his limit.
And Fushiguro, who developed the Domain (even though it wasn’t enough), overwhelmed the high-grade curse by facing future himself and expanding the interpretation of his curse power!
He was finally successful for purifying the high-grade curse, having Shikigami manifest within the Domain, while attacking physically, never allowing the high-grade curse to attack him!
One of the points you should check out here is how the performance depicted! The battle scene within the Domain, full of shadows just like water, where Shikigami calls, the water looks splashing, according to Fushiguro’s attack and the Shikigami’s curses’ movement! The speed of Fushiguro’s attack, overwhelming the curse, is dramatically showing us!
Fushiguro’s awakening and victory are one of the typical development in Jump Comics!
He is so cool……
And after this scene in Episode 59, the reason why Fushiguro became a sorcerer and wanted to “save many good people as he can” will be depicted along with his past version!
So check it out too!

3 : Episode 87
“The Shibuya Incident”
Vol. 10

The last scene I want to share with you is Itadori’s battle scene in the latest Vol.10!
This is one of the Shibuya Incident scenes, now incredibly being developed in Weekly Shonen JUMP too!
On October 31st, 2018, all of a sudden, Shibuya was made an energy barrier and people got locked in the Shibuya Station. Itadori, Gojou and Fushiguro tried to save people, separated into small groups too.
Meanwhile, Itadori found out who made the barrier so he was heading for the concourse on the 2nd floor to beat it, when he ran across the grasshopper curse, eating human. He felt disgusted about the curse, not only killing people but also “protecting the cursed charms to make the barrier” and instantly decided to destroy the cursed charms and purity the curse. Itadori punched the curse and glared at it, saying “Don’t mess us around.”
Then the battle got even more intense! Itadori, who kept attacking and defending, was also calmly analyzing the situation. I thought he has grown up both physically and mentally, seeing him being this calm. He went through various incidents, huh.?
While the grasshopper curse had four arms, Itadori had two. However, Itadori, who had a high physical strength and experiences from his past duties or events, was too strong that the curse was absolutely helpless against him.
Even though the curse trapped Itadori by the unpredictable attack, stretching his belly, the curse was still helpless against Itadori.
“You ate humans” “You know what you’re gonna get, huh?” Itadori said to the curse quietly and he beat the grasshopper curse without instantly!
The manga artist, Akutami Gege-Sensei, seemed to have tried various new ways of depicting illustrations around this time so we see many different and unpredictable images, compared to the other two scenes I shared, such as the boldness of the line, the characters, how each panel is assigned.
Especially for this Itadori’s scene, Akutami Gege-Sensei drew the afterimage with bolder and thicker lines so Itadori’s high physical strength is well-depicted!
Sometimes if you focus on how the artist draws, it might be more fun!
Well, there are mainly two attractions about Shibuya Incident, depicting in Vol.10! One is that it has more action scenes than before.
Inside of the barrier in Shibuya, so many curses exist so it’s inevitable for sorcerers to fight against them……!
Another thing is that the scene changes dramatically. New characters appear and they also fight in the battle too so you might become a fan of them too!
The Comics, Vol.11, “Shibuya Incident” will release on June 4th, 2020!
