Strawberry 100% is a Japanese rom-com manga series written and illustrated by Mizuki Kawashita.

The manga series was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen Jump from March 2002 to August 2005. It’s 167 individual chapters are compiled and collected into 19 separate volumes. A sequel series by the name of “Strawberry 100% East Side Story” was later serialized in Shueisha’s Jump Giga from April 28 to July 28, 2017. Aside from that, a game based on this series was also released in 2005.

An anime television series adapted by Madhouse was released in 2005, consisting of 12 episodes. Several OVAs of this series have also been released.

The story begins with Junpei Manaka, the protagonist of this story, making his way through the staircase which leads to the school roof. As soon as he opens the door, out of nowhere, a young girl comes crashing down on him.

Confused as to what just happened, he gets up, but his face turns smug as he sees the strawberry patterned panties of the girl.

She quickly gets up and runs away.

Now Junpei seems irritated as to why she fell on him and ran away without apologizing, while still remembering her face and admitting how beautiful she was.

He spots a few stairs which further lead to an area above the roof, where he finds a notebook with the girls name on it, “Grade 9, Class 4 Toujou Aya”.

While walking back home with two of his friends, he explains what happened with the girl wearing strawberry panties, but they don’t seem to be believing him. He then shows them the book and the girls name, to which they reveal that the girl ‘Toujou’ studies in their class, much to Junpei’s shock as he doesn’t remember a girl this beautiful in their class.

The next day, he looks for Toujou in his class, but the girl he finds doesn’t look anything like the girl he saw on the roof.

“she’s definitely not the girl I saw yesterday. She’s nothing like the girl I remember. I never thought Toujou Aya was this plain girl...... “

Junpei forgot to bring the book, so he promises to bring it the next day. Toujou requests him not to look inside her book, claiming that her handwriting isn’t pretty. He agrees and they part ways.

During lunch break, Junpei expresses his desire to film the scene when the girls skirt flew showing her panties, causing a brawl to break out with his friends. Seeing this commotion, Tsukkie, a cute girl who his friend has a crush on, breaks them up and throws Junpei off by saying that she also wears strawberry panties.

He then later makes a bet with his friends to propose to Tsukkie.

While at home, he thinks about Toujou and ends up opening her book, where he reads a very captivating novel written by her.

The next day, he enters the class and quickly takes her to the school roof, where he starts admiring her writing skills as a novelist. He expresses his desire to become a Film Maker, and that reading her novel made him feel good about his dreams. Hearing all this opens up some feelings for Junpei in her heart.

Seeing that Toujou is a romance writer, Junpei asks weather she can help him confess to Tsukkie.

“Then...... why don’t you confess while doing sports? “ says Toujou jokingly, but Junpei doesn’t wait to listen the entire thing and runs away.

While walking thorough the school hallway, he hears two boys badmouthing Toujou about her hair and her clumsiness. This triggers Junpei and he defends her against those boys, while Tsukkie is listening to all this in a nearby class.

Junpei later calls Tsukkie to the playground to confess, while his friends witness from the bushes holding a camera to record his rejection. He comes running across the ground, jumps and grabs a pole, completing a single chin up. He then yells,

“Tsukkie I like you! Please go out with me! “

She bursts into laughter and replies, “sure I will...... if it’s you...... Ahahaha! “

Also hiding in the bushes, Toujou runs to the bathroom with a sad expression on her face. She takes of her glasses...... She’s the girl with the strawberry patterned panties!

What will happen now that Junpei has confessed to the wrong girl? How will this complicated story unfold?
