What’s the story?

We begin by seeing Mahigashi Teru starting his career as a doctor. He is ecstatic to be working at such a prestigious medical institution. He introduces himself as the new surgeon to everyone at the hospital. A nurse, Sakura Ayano, approaches him and offers him tea, making him blush.
Suddenly, a bald man enters, making a racket about the shortage of toilet paper. Teru mistakes him for a yakuza member and tells him to leave, but instead he head buts Teru. Ayano explains that he is the hospital's director, Yasudi Junji. Teru apologizes right away, knowing he's in trouble.
Junji knocks Teru across the face with his own skull and sends him to Kitami Shuichi, the surgical department's head. As he brings in the next patient, Teru asks to examine him. He instantly identifies the patients disease and suggestes an IV drip, but when the nurse specifically asks for the drip, he forgets the name. Kitami fills in for Teru and names the Neophilin drip.
Teru is then asked by Kitami to perform an endoscopy on a patient. Teru starts, but owing to his clumsiness and inaccuracy with the endoscope, he breaks it. Kitami takes over and executes the procedure expertly, demonstrating to Teru the difference between a skilled and an inexperienced doctor.
Kitami’s tone becomes harsh as he tells Teru that he was only concerned in showing his abilities, not in saving the patient's life. When Teru tries to apologize, Kitami yells at him, declaring that he will not allow Teru near another patient because of his carelessness, and that he has more important things to do than clean up after trainees.
Kitami complains to Junji about how it was a mistake to hire Teru as a surgeon. Junji explains to Kitami that Teru is the only son of the legendary surgeon Mahigashi Kousuke. He claims to have personally observed the fabled GodHand's surgery and was shivering the entire time.
Kousuke, according to Junji, perished in a plane disaster 15 years ago. He was attempting to save his son’s life in his final moments, giving him a heart massage to revive him, which left a handprint on his chest. Junji claims that Teru still has the handprint on his chest, along with his father’s tenacity and that Kitami should give him a chance.
Teru is destined for greatness, according to Junji, and when he faces the death of his first patient, that will tell weather he is cut out for this or not. Junji asks Kitami to keep an eye on him
Back at the office, Teru is studying when Ayano suddenly walks in and startles him. She inquires as to if he was offended by something Kitami had said to him.
Kitami, Teru claims, should not have dismissed him because this was his life's work. He promises to be more cautious in the future. Ayano admits that she was a little sloppy as well when she first began out as a nurse, but that she improved over time. Their conversation is interrupted by a call to the emergency room.
A patient, an 11-year-old girl who had been impaled by two iron rods, is brought in by the paramedics. Kitami and Junji were both performing emergency surgery, thus Teru was the only available surgeon.
As his chest begins to burn, Teru is divided between his emotions. He orders Ayano to prepare for surgery immediately or else it will be too late. Ayano is concerned as Teru is doing surgery for the first time, but Teru looks calm and confident as he begins the procedure using a scalpel.
Teru operates so rapidly that the nurses can't keep up with him. He convinces himself that he must save the girl's life at any costs, as he cuts into her chest to uncover the heart. The nurses give up hope when they see that the iron rods have pierced her heart.
Teru is scared for the girls life and refuses to give up, as he continues with the surgery.
He has a flashback of his dad trying to save him after the plane crash. The mark on his chest starts to burn, and with a sudden flash, he realizes a way to remove the bar.
Kitami and Junji arrive after finishing their surgeries only to see that Teru had perfectly removed the bar, and stitched up the hole in the girl’s heart.
Teru performed the surgery with the help of a heart-lung machine, which allowed him to perform an open heart surgery without disrupting the blood flow. Ayano expresses how he was a totally different person during surgery and that shivers went down her spine.
Now it was sure to Junji that Teru possessed his Father’s medical prowess. Teru is unmistakably the GodHand's offspring, Junji says, and that someone like him should stay at this hospital.
Teru is exhausted after the surgery as the girl's parents approach him to express their gratitude for saving her life. Teru begins to cry as a result of his joy at saving his first life.
As they both chuckle, Junji tells Kitami that he might have a new rival in Teru.
As the chapter comes to an end, Teru again breaks something, letting Junji to believe that there is still work to be done.
What awaits Teru now that he has demonstrated his surgical genius?
