Rent-A-Girlfriend is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Reiji Miyajima.

The manga started serialization in Kodansha's Weekly Shounen Magazine since July 2017, and its 211 chapters, which are released up to date, are compiled into 24 separate volumes as of October 2021. The manga has more than 8.3 million copies in circulation, worldwide, as of April 2021.

An anime television series by TMS Entertainment was released, which consisted of 12 episodes. A second season has been announced, and will premiere in 2022.

The manga starts of with Mami breaking up with Kazuya.

As Kazuya is laying on the floor, thinking what Mami might be doing with an another man, he comes across something called a “Rental Girlfriend “. In order to forget about Mami, he rents a girl named, Mizuhara Chizuru.

The next day, Mizuhara comes to the meeting place. As soon as he lays his eyes on Mizuhara, he gets captured by her beauty and charm. Kazuya has a great time with her and comes back happy. He looks at her rental profile and realizes that everything she said and did was all an act.

He again rents her but this time he acts like he doesn’t even care. He sees Mizuhara doing all these cute things and accidentally shouts at her for being so fake.

Mizuhara quickly grabs his hand and takes him away from the scene. She then breaks character and starts yelling at Kazuya for talking to her like that.

Kazuya gets a call saying his grandma has collapsed. They both rush to the hospital just to find her good health. Grandma asks Kazuya about Mizuhara, to which he replies “she’s my girlfriend”.

Kazuya’s grandma gets emotional when she hears that, as it was her dream for him to find a girlfriend.

Mizuhara soon leaves afterward but tells Kazuya to call her if he can’t bring himself to tell his Grandma the truth.

The next day, Kazuya goes to school and is discomforted when he sees Mami with an another man.

He tries to ignore that and keeps walking, this is when he comes across a young girl wearing glasses, standing in front of him, it’s Mizuhara Chizuru.

What will happen now that Kazuya knows Mizuhara’s personal identity?
