What is ”Attack on Titan”?

Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama.
Attack on Titan was serialized in Kodansha's monthly Shounen manga magazine, Bessatsu Shounen magazine, with its 139 chapters collected in 34 separate volumes. The series has over 100 million copies in circulation, worldwide.
Three seasons, and the first part of the final anime season have been released, with the second and the final part being confirmed. The manga has won several awards, including the Kodansha Manga Award, and Harvey Award.

What's the story?

The manga kicks off by showing the Survey Corp trying to kill a Titan. The only way to kill a Titan is by cutting out a big chunk of its neck.
Meanwhile, in the shiganshina district inside the walls, young Mikasa wakes up Eren Yeager, the protagonist of the story, from his sleep.
Eren seems to be crying when he wakes up. He tells Mikasa not to tell anyone about this.
Carrying firewood, they both start heading home but run into Hannes, a member of the Garrison and a friend of Eren’s.
Eren points out that Hannes smells of liquor and won’t be able to defend the wall if a Titan breaks through.
After parting ways with Hannes, Eren and Mikasa hear a bell indicating the return of the Survey Corp.
Every member of the Corp is missing a limb or is badly wounded. Only 20 members came back from the 100 members that left for the patrol.
A mother doesn’t see her son with the Corp and asks for him. But what she gets is the severed hand of her son which the Corp was able to retrieve.
While the mother mourns for her child, a man standing in the crowd insults the Survey corp. This angers Eren, as he wants to join the survey Corp, he hits the man on the head with a piece of wood.
Before things get out of hand, Mikasa quickly drags Eren from the scene.
They get home, where Eren’s mother is making dinner and his father is getting ready to go to work.
Mikasa tells them both that Eren wants to join the Corp, for which Eren gets yelled at by his mother.
His father leaves for work and Eren and Mikasa head out. They find their friend Armin who is getting bullied by some kids. The kids see Mikasa and run away in terror.
All three of them are talking about how life would be outside the walls, when suddenly they feel a tremor and an explosion.
All three of them run toward the explosion, only to see the Colossus Titan peering over the Walls at them as it kicks through the gate.
“That day, the human race remembered the terror of being dominated by them and the shame of being held captive in a birdcage”.
Will Eren and the others be able to survive this invasion?
