Chainsaw Man is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto.

The series was serialized in Shueisha’s weekly Shounen Jump magazine from 2018 to 2020. The manga has crossed over 11 million copies in circulation. In 2021, the manga won the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award in the Shounen category, as well as the Harvey Awards in the Best Manga category. This shows that it was very well received.

An anime television series adaptation produced by MAPPA has been announced.

The story begins with our protagonist, Denji, telling his Devil partner, Pochita, how much debt is left.

He and Pochita manage to take down the tomato devil and collect his bounty. But after taking out his expenses and the money he owes, he barely has left to eat.

As he is laying on the couch with Pochita, eating a raw bread, he recalls the day his father died and left him with this debt.

That is when he came across Pochita, who was badly wounded. Denji offered up his blood to Pochita and in exchange asked Pochita to help him earn money. He then became a Devil hunter.

As he is thinking about the things he wants, he suddenly coughs up blood remembering that his mother also died of a heart issue.

He then gets called by the old man to kill a devil but gest stabbed in the back when he gets there.

It appears that the old man was under the control of a zombie devil and all his men have turned into zombies.

The zombie devil orders his men to kill Denji, who then cut Denji and Pochita into pieces and drow them in the dumpster.

Some of Denji’s blood gets into Pochita, who then remembers Denji’s word’s “If something were to happen to me, you can take over my body”.

Pochita then fuses with Denji and brings him back to life.

The zombie devil sees Denji alive and orders his men to eat him. All the zombies jump on Denji but due to the fusion, Denji turns into the Chainsaw Man.

He then jams his chainsaw into the devils eye and slits him into pieces. He then proceeds to kill every last zombie.

Makima arrives on the scene and sees all the dead zombies. She asks Denji who he is but barely being able to stand, Denji tells her to hold him.

As Makima holds Denji, she realizes that Denji is not a devil and gives him two choices, be killed by her or become her pet. She also says that she would feed him.

Hearing that he’ll get good food for a change, Denji agrees to Makima.
