What is “Yu-Gi-Oh”?

Yu-Gi-Oh is a Japanese manga series about gaming written and illustrated by Kazuki Takahashi.
The series was serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shounen Jump magazine between 1996 and 2004. The manga was adapted into an Anime by the name, Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters.
Yu-Gi-Oh has become one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time, with multiple spin-off manga and anime series, video games, trading card games, and more than 22 billion cards sold worldwide.

What's the story?

History tells of an ancient game knows as the “Shadow Games”, which were used to predict the future of kings.
The story follows a boy named Yugi Mutou. He is in school when everyone goes out to play basket ball but he remains in class to solve a mysterious puzzle, which according to legend if solved, will grant a single wish.
Yugi is trying to solve the puzzle when suddenly, Jounouchi and Honda take the puzzle box and start tossing it around.
Yugi tries to get it back but they both are taller then him. That is when Anzu, Yugi’s friend, arrives and takes the box from them and gives it back to Yugi.
But before Anzu takes back the puzzle, Jounouchi manages to take a piece of the puzzle and later throws it in the river.
Yugi takes Anzu to his Grandpa’s game shop, we’re his grandpa tells them about the history of the ‘Millennium Puzzle’.
The next day, a guy named Ushio takes Yugi to show him that he beat up Jounouchi and Honda for bullying him. But Yugi gets in the way to stop Ushio after which Ushio demands two hundred thousand yen.
Jounouchi now feels guilty for what he did to Yugi and to make up for it, he finds the missing puzzle and and gives it to Yugi’s grandpa to give to him.
Yugi finally finishes the puzzle. Just then, a golden eye appears on Yugi’s forehead and he gets taken over by something else.
Yugi challenges Ushio to a shadow game. Ushio being the bad guy he is, tries to cheat but by the power of the Millennium Puzzle, gets trapped in an illusion.
The chapter ends with Jounouchi apologizing to Yugi and calling him his friend. He then gets embarrassed and runs off to class.
What or Who took over Yugi’s mind? Exactly what is the Millennium Puzzle?
