It’s a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Ooima Yoshitoki-Sensei.

It has currently been serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine since November 2016, with the individual chapters collected and published into 14 volumes. An anime television series adaptation was originally supposed to premiere in October 2020 but was postponed to April 2021.

‘It’ was a ‘sphere.’

It was the ‘sphere’ which someone threw to ‘observe’ the world.

Then the ‘sphere,’ which fell on the ground, imitated the form of a rock.

As the temperature dropped, it changed to the moss, growing around the rocks……

And ‘it’ (now the moss) imitated an injured, lone wolf, which laid down on it (the moss).

‘It’ learned how to walk by taking on the form of the wolf.

It was hard to walk since it even took of its injury, however, it recovered in 20 seconds. Not knowing what to do, it was wandering about there, feeling its own walking, coldness from the snow and the smell of snowfield……

Then it met a boy, who lived in the snowfield.

It found out that the wolf’s name was ‘Joan’ and it had been missing over two months. The boy welcomed ‘Joan’ warmly, who was finally back to him.

There were so many strange things there.

Warm atmosphere, nice scent, mysterious sound and something bright……

‘Joan’ felt without saying any words.

That’s the moment when ‘it’ met a human for the first time.

And it learned how to eat things and sleep…… a little.

The boy lived alone in a ghost town, which can no longer be called ‘a village.’

All the adults who used to lived there had abandoned five years ago in search of the paradise, believing there exist many people, much food and resources, in the other side of the snowfield.

They just left the boy and the elderly people, who could not walk, there.

Nobody has ever been back since then.

All the elderly people died.

And the boy, now all alone, was still waiting for the villagers……

All alone……

This is how a life of the boy and ‘Joan’ started.

‘Joan,’ who had not even known the definition of ‘eating something,’ learned it from the boy.

Just like the boy showed him, ‘Joan’ ate everything on his place.

It was so quick that the boy couldn’t notice that he had even imitated what the boy said……

That night, the boy painted on the wall.

He painted all the villagers who used to live there and the elderly people who had been left with him.

Then the boy and ‘Joan’ started to get ready for leaving the village.

And they were about to leave there……

“Please remember me…… for good……”

That’s how ‘it’ imitated the form of the boy and changed to the boy.

To encounter various people and get to know various things, just like the boy aimed……

‘It’ left for a journey.
