It’s a Japanese light novel series written by Baba Okina-Sensei. It began serialization online on the user-generated novel publishing website “Shōsetsuka ni Narō.” (lit. “Let's Become a Novelist”) since 2015. 15 volumes of the original novel have currently being released.

It went viral as soon as it started to be serialized and in 2015, and its comicalized version was released too. As for the comics, it’s been so popular that 9 volumes have been released as well. It’s illustrated by Kiryu Tsukasa-Sensei.

This series got awarded in the light novel contest, called “Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! (This Light Novel is Amazing!)” and has sold over 2,000,000 copied in total (as of June 2020). In 2018, they announced that an anime television series adaptation was underway, and it will finally premiere in January 2021.

A high school girl, living in the modern world, wakes up one morning. Guess what? She finds herself being reincarnated into a spider with the previous memory she had……!

This is literally, a now-hot “reincarnation to the different world”-type of story, however…… why does it have to be a spider…… Besides, she keeps her previous memory……! Quite horrible, huh??

(Let me cut out a little since it’s a little too grotesque……)
The girl (the main protagonist) manages to run away from other spiders, watching the food chain between the spiders. She thinks that she will definitely be involved with the food chain if she stays there……! Thinking that, she continues to escape to the safe place.

Finally reaching the safe place, the girl recalls her previous world.

She was a high school girl, taking a nap during the class at school, when a terrible headache struck her…… She wonders if she is possessed by a spider before she dies or is completely reincarnated to a spider……

However, she stops to think because thiniking too much might damage her mental condition. Thinking positively like that, she now tries to understand what she is like as a spider.

The girl finds some footprints of a human and realizes she cannot be a creature on earth because she seems much bigger than the spider. She wants to research for humans or other things a little more but again, she doesn’t know how to do it because she is a spider. “Oh My Gush~ If this was a “reincarnation to the different world”-type of story, I would definitely be able to use the skill fo judgement……”

Guess what? She is actually be now able to use the skill fo judgement!

It looks like she needs something called the skill point to master the skill but anyhow, she has acquired the skill of judgement and she actually judges the stone she picks up there!

The result turns out to be a stone.

Although she has acquired the skill of judgement, she sees strong-looking animals besides humans here and there in the cave…… She builds the web so the prey gets caught but she is not able to get any…… Therefore, she bravely decides to eat dead spider brothers which she has got on the way to there (“cannibalism”)……!

Even though they were already dead, she did eat the spider brothers. Now she is not able to go back to where she was. Then she has mastered a super strong-looking magic called “Gedou Mahou,” maybe because she has eaten the spider brothers! Gush! That looks so strong……! She tries to start using the magic, making a little embarrasing pose. But it wouldn’t start. She would never forgive it.

Then she realizes that all the spider brothers must have the same skill if it’s the one I can get by eating them. Meanwhile, the prey finally gets caught in the web! What on earth is the prey!?
