Even though it begins with a development reminiscent of the fairy tale “Cinderella,” where the protagonist, who has lost her mother, is taken in by the main branch of a prestigious family and expects a “dreadful stepmother” and “mean stepsisters” to await her, what actually awaited her was a family so kind and full of compassion that it was almost anticlimactic. This gap is the greatest charm of the story, making it a work with a mysterious comfort that naturally brings a smile to your face every time you turn the page.

The setting of the story is an era when foreign culture was gradually beginning to permeate Japan.
