[Yuri x Mystery] A letter found tucked inside a library book. A secret love unfolding within a prestigious girls' school......! Illustrations, gimmicks, character settings—all highly rated! Haikei, Arishi Hi ni Saku Hana-tachi e!

Kasumi, a girl whose main virtue is her seriousness, has enrolled in a traditional, prestigious girls' school. Her new life is greatly shaken by a single “coincidence.” A book she picked up in the campus library. From between its pages appeared a single letter. Written in that letter from an unknown sender was a somewhat nostalgic yet poignant wish: “I want you to have a special relationship with me, just like this book.” Captivated by those words, Kasumi steps into the unknown past and the memories of girls, as if invited by a story—.
The charm of this work lies, above all, in its careful depiction of the Showa-era girls' culture known as “S” from a modern perspective. The delicate emotions of girls wavering between friendship and love. The intimate relationships between women, which were rarely spoken of openly, gradually emerge through an elegant narrative style. In an era where Yuri works are diversifying, the composition that deliberately sheds light on classical motifs reveals the strong commitment and respect of the author, Igarashi Jun. It is not cliché, yet it feels nostalgic. You are drawn into such a mysterious sensation.
Another noteworthy point of this work is its visuals. The delicacy is such that every single line is soft, conveying even the characters' emotions and the flow of the atmosphere. There are no flashy effects, but because of that, the small gestures and subtle changes in the characters' expressions leave a lingering aftertaste like watching a movie. The story also develops quietly but steadily, and you can see the depth of the narrative increasing with every page you read. It feels as if the carefully constructed worldview gently nestles close to the reader's heart.
At first glance, it is a pure coming-of-age story, but beneath the narrative, themes such as darkness of the heart and repression flow quietly. It is never oppressive; rather, it naturally emerges within the characters' growth and choices. Because they know reality, the girls' feelings of wanting to seek ideals invite the reader's empathy. The balance between kindness and strictness, dreams and reality, is exquisite, making it a work that stays in the heart even for adults.
“Haikei, Arishi Hi ni Saku Hana-tachi e” is a gem of a work that stands out even among Yuri titles. Quiet, elegant, and somewhat poignant. But it is certainly a story that should be read “now.” I am very much looking forward to the continuation and have great expectations for future developments.
