Hello everybody! It’s Saori from Manga Republic!

So! I have a question for you today…… Have you played ‘shogi’ before?

Aaand hello everybody. I’m Manga Republic’s Boss.

Do you guys know what the shogi is in the first place? It’s one of the Japanese traditional board games, still loved by many people!

In shogi, two players move “koma” on the “board,” taking turn. Whoever gets the koma called “gyokushou” wins.

You might understand what it is if I say it’s like a chess.

The rules are quite different, though. But it’s like the chess, I guess.

By the way, I have played shogi when I was an elementary student. It was quite difficult; I mean it’s quite deep that I wouldn’t be able to beat good players back then.

So today! We’ll be featuring the series, whose theme is this shogi! By the way, I’ve never played shogi before!

What Is Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru?

It’s a school×shogi×love comedy-type Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yamamoto Souichirou, currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine. Originally, a webcomic version was irregularly posted in author’s social media. The manga in the magazine started to be serialized since March, 2019. As for the comics, four volumes have been released.

The author, Yamamoto Souichirou)-sensei, also works on Teasing master Takagi-san (Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san), no?

I thought so! I love Teasing Master Takagi-san (Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san) so I’m a little curious about this series too! What is it like?

Outline of Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru!

The story is set in a high school in the modern world.

Yaotome Urushi, a second-year student, and Tanaka Ayumu, a first-year student, are playing shogi. Urushi is better than Ayumu and he has never won over her yet.

“You’re awesome. You’re super good at shogi, Senpai……”

“Haha…… I know, right?”

“On top of that, you’re so pretty too.”

“Whaaat!?”

Urushi asks Ayumu what she has wanted to asked him for a long time.

“……You…… you have a crush on me, right?”

She thinks so because he has joined the shogi club, where only Urushi was the member, even though he didn’t know how to play shogi at all. Asked by her, Ayumu says “I have no idea what you’re saying.”

Ayumu finally says to him, seeing Urushi never admit that he likes her because her heart keeps pounding and she really wants to know how he feels about her.

“If you admit that you like me, then I’ll give you a big hug. I’ll even kiss you too.”

“……Senpai.”

“Could you be a little quiet? I want to concentrate on it.”

Ayumu looks so calm but……

(It was close…… I almost admitted it. Sorry, Senpai……)

(I have decided that I would ask her for a date when I beat you in shogi……!!!!!)

“Let me…… beat you for this one……”
(Then I can ask her for a date……!)

“Are you stupid? Who can beat me? This is it!”

“What……? Why didn’t I think of that……?”

This series is a peaceful school shogi love comedy about Ayumu, who would never admit that he has a crush on her, while Urushi, who is a pro of shogi, keeping asking him if he likes her with her heart always pounding by him……!

The storyline is exactly like the Takagi-San’s……!!! I gotta read this one too!

Actually, this series is so popular that it’s awarded 3rd place in the comics section of Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Awards 2020! I’m guessing that it might be made into anime too……! Check it out!
