【Beast People x Daily Life】An Era of Diversity! A Slice-of-Life Manga with Humans and Non-Humans! Ogami Tsumiki to Kinichijou.!

2024-07-08
In an era where modern diversity is the theme, it has become commonplace for “non-human beings” to exist. These beings, known as “Genjins,” live alongside humans, and their presence blends seamlessly into everyday life. In such a world, a human boy named Shinsou Yutaka is struggling to understand his own feelings and spends his days conforming to those around him. At Keiki High School, where he attends, he meets a werewolf named Omori Tsumiki. Cute, powerful, a bit scatterbrained but kind, meeting her makes Yutaka's heart race more than usual. This “not so ordinary” daily life spun with Tsumiki the werewolf begins as a new-normal youth story.
“Omori Tsumiki to Kinichijou.” is a story set in a school where humanoid beings like yokai are recognized. In the first episode, a small interaction between the protagonist and the heroine at the shoe locker marks the first step towards harmony with others. The world is vast, and moments that allow you to feel this expanse are one of the charms of this work.
While the traits of demi-humans are key to the story, the depiction of the human trait of “reading the air” is also sharp. The character Tsumiki boldly disregards this trait and does not read the air at all. This is her charm and strength. Her werewolf traits are well integrated into her character, and her struggles as a non-human are depicted, adding depth beyond mere cuteness.
The protagonist, Yutaka, loses himself by worrying too much about not hurting anyone. On the other hand, Tsumiki, as a Genjin with immutable traits, builds relationships with a clear understanding of her nature. Through their interactions, this work offers new perspectives on the boundaries and constraints existing in human society, lightening the heart and providing healing. Tsumiki's gap is sure to charm you.
This manga depicts the communication between humans and Genjins (demi-humans or different beings). The protagonist Yutaka is a human, while the heroine Tsumiki is a werewolf Genjin. It illustrates not only the difficulties Genjins face in daily life but also the perspective from the human side, evoking empathy for the struggles from each standpoint. Tsumiki's werewolf traits are depicted adorably, with a scene where she howls at the full moon being particularly cute. Additionally, the daily life difficulties of vampires and other Genjins are portrayed, filled with enjoyable episodes to read.
This work perfectly matches the theme of diversity in modern society, making it a much-needed piece for today's era. The protagonist Yutaka's struggles with his adolescent self are endearing and heartwarming. As a school story that carefully portrays the instability before adulthood and the unique freshness of being a student, I am looking forward to the next volume.
“Ogami Tsumiki to Kinichijou.” is a new kind of story that depicts coexistence and youth with different beings and is worth reading when considering diversity.
