What's the story?

The chapter begins with the graduation ceremony at Merdiana Magic Academy. Negi Springfield, the protagonist of this story, receives his diploma and to become a great mage must serve for the betterment of the humans. He opens his scroll and sees that he is assigned as a Middle school teacher in the human world.
His classmates argue to the grandmaster that a ten-year-old cannot possibly pass as a teacher, but the grandmaster responds that if it’s written on the diploma, it’s final.
The next day, Negi first arrives in Tokyo, and is taken aback by the sheer volume of people. When some girls approach him on the train and ask where he’s headed, Negi becomes flustered and sneezes, causing a gust of wind to blow in the train.
Negi is surprised to see the sheer number of students in the train. As a significant number of students rush to their classes, Negi considers that he does not want to be late on his first day of work. Two girls, Asuna and Konoko, are running to school when Negi catches up to them and says a fortune, ”your love will be unrequited”, prompting Asuna to rough him up.
The girls inform him that small children are not permitted in the girls' academy and that he should leave. Takahata, their teacher, shows up and appears to recognize Negi. To the girl’s amazement, he presents himself as the new teacher at their academy. Asuna is not pleased with this and tells Negi that she despises children, leading Negi to sneeze again, causing her garments to blow away.
Asuna and Konoko, together with Negi, arrive in the Principal's office, where he tells Negi to give teaching his all, as there will be no second chances. Negi agrees, and the Principal requests that the girls allow Negi to stay in their room for the time being.
Shizuna, the guidance officer, leads Negi to the class where he will be lecturing. Negi notices that all of his students are females when he opens the class roster. He enters the room uneasily and as soon as he opens the door, a duster falls on his head. He stops the duster in mid air, but then dismisses the magic and lets it fall on his head. He then trips over a rope, resulting in him tumbling into the class.
He presents himself as their new English teacher, and the girls are immediately taken with his cuteness. They swarm about him, treating him as if he were a young child. Asuna approaches him and asks whether he did anything strange to the duster. The class president, Ayaka, intervenes and tells her to stop acting like a monkey.
Asuna has her reservations about Negi's ability to educate. She tries to distract him during class by throwing erasers at him, but when it doesn’t work, she considers the possibility that he isn't so unusual after all. As the class comes to an end, Takahita appears and asks Negi about his class. Asuna sees this and immediately pretends as if she assisted Negi during class, solely to impress Takahita.
After school, while looking at the roll call book, Negi notices Miyazaki Nodoka, a student of his, lugging a large stack of books. She slips on the stairs but Negi uses his magic at the last moment to stop her from falling and catches her. Asuna witnesses this and takes Negi away.
Negi reveals to her that he is a mage and asks her to keep his identity a secret from everyone else. She refuses and Negi uses some magic to erase her memories but ends up erasing her clothes instead. Takahita walks in on the two of them as Asuna stands there naked.
Asuna begins to cry, claiming that Takahita had seen her naked. Negi apologizes and admits that he is still inexperienced with magic. He requests her not to disclose his identity, else he would lose his magic license. Asuna tells him that he’ll have to help her in order to take responsibility of what happened.
Negi claims that he can only read people's minds. She requests that he read Takahata's mind to learn what he thinks of her. The two of them return to class, where the girls have prepared a surprise welcome party for Negi.
As a thank you for saving her, Nodoka gives Negi a book. Ayaka also prepared a present for Negi, a broze bust of him. All the teachers are present at the celebration and Asuna reminds Negi to read Takahata's mind. Negi approaches him and places his palm on his forehead.
He tells Asuna that Takahata was thinking about her with no panties and Asuna runs off in embarrassment. Negi chases her down and apologizes. Being her teacher, he talks to her and manages to cheer her up.
Asuna requests that Negi play the role of Takahata so that she can practise confessing. “I love you,” she whispers as she untangles her hair. As she goes in for a kiss, she instructs Negi to close his eyes, but she pulls Negi's cheeks at the last second, calling it revenge for what he did before.
As night strikes, the children return to their houses. Despite what she had stated previously, Asuna tells Negi that it's fine if he wants to stay with her. After all, she claims, Negi is only a kid, and if he works hard enough, he could become an excellent teacher!
As he follows Asuna and Konoko, Negi thinks to himself that Asuna was a nice person at heart after all.
What awaits Negi as he continues his job as a teacher?
