What Is 86?

It’s a Japanese light novel series written by a novelist, Asato Asato-Sensei.
The comicalized, based on the original, started to be serialized since 2018 and 2 volumes have been released. This series is originally influenced by the horror movies, especially “The Mist” and “Screamers.” What she was trying to focus on in this series is that “We should respect others as a human like ourselves, while living, trying not to regret.”

I have a feeling that it will go viral after Episode 1 of anime……! Well, let’s check out the outline!

Outline of 86!

“There’s no such thing as the dead in the battlefield.”
A boy is in the fighter.
The boy, called “Undertaker” as a code name, is now quietly listening to the order through the wireless system. The order is “Get rid of the enemies of the Republic, even risking your own life.”
The ‘Undertaker,’ as a commander, heads for the battlefield with his other members, without responding to an apology, saying “Sorry…… I’m so sorry, you guys……”
The enemies are about to defeat the Republic, getting closer to them.
While the ‘Undertaker’ is calmly analyzing the current situation and giving his men instructions……
The battle begins.
The multiple bombing explode all at the same time with thundering roar spreading out through the battle field.
The “Undertaker”’s members are now getting killed one after another due to the difference in their military strengths by an overwhelming margin.
At first, his members reported him their situations calmlly but now, they start to show him the words expressing that they are scared and they want to give up. And they’re gone.
“Hey, Shin…… I mean, ‘Undertaker,’ you haven’t forgotten our promise, right?”
“……Nah”
Knowing that he won’t be able to get any more responses, the ‘Undertaker’ responds the last correspondence from his member. Then……
The battle is over. Although they had the difference in their military strength, the enemies have withdrawn thanks to an active role that the ‘Undertaker’ played. The battle is over and it’s time to return to his home.
He gets a correspondence from his squad.
“……Undertaker…… Ahh…… besides you, how many more…… (are survived?)”
“The transmission is over.”
The ‘Undertaker’ murmurs quietly in the battlefield, completely left alone.
86 indicates the 86th Ward, which is the outside of the 85 administrative divisions in the Republic.
It’s internment camps, where those who have been labeled as the “inferior creatures.” They are also forced to fight in the Republic’s war.
What is hidden behind the words, “There’s no such thing as the dead in the battlefield,” was such a miserable class society.
“86.”
It’s a story about a boy called the “Undertaker” living in the 86 Ward and……
a girl, who will lead those who live in the 86 Ward……
What an incredible worldview. And…… how serious the story is being depicted……
It’s a near-futuristic story with such savage atmosphere…… Also, the original is the light novel. I’ve never seen any series like this, having almost no gag element, for a long time. Even in manga series, the way machines are depicted were awesome…… Again, Episode 1 will attract so many people for sure……!
