Hello, everybody! Yeah, we really don’t see many soccer manga series, huh? Why is it? It’s Saori from Manga Republic!
I know, right? Maybe not so many people play soccer in Japan?
That seems to be one of the reasons. A spacious outside court and some special equipment are required…… And as for the PE class back at school, we really didn’t play soccer as well.
That’s true. We need many people to form a team too. It’s hard to teach it even at school, huh…… So I bet many people don’t even know the rule, I guess. Compared to other sports, not so many people seem to be playing, either.
So today! This might bring more people who are going to play soccer in Japan! We’ll be featuring a soccer manga series with a lovely protagonist!

What Is Farewell, My Dear Cramer (Sayonara Watashi no Cramer)?

It’s a Japanese manga series by Arakawa Naoshi-Sensei.
It’s been serialized since 2016 until January 2021. It came to an end just the other day. It has also been collected in 13 volumes of comics. The story is scheduled to conclude in Volume 14.
Both a film adaptation of a Junior High School version and an anime adaptation of a Senior High School version are scheduled to premiere in April 2021.
He is the manga artist of Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso), too, right? This one was a big hit and an anime, a film and a live action film adaptation were all released.

I’ve heard that the author wanted to make another series that ‘contains a lot of movement’ after ‘Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso)’ is concluded. Then he actually created this soccer manga series. Well, let’s take a look at what kind of story it is!

Storyline of Farewell, My Dear Cramer (Sayonara Watashi no Cramer)!

It’s a day when they have the final official game at their 3rd-year of junior high school.
The captain, Suou Sumire, blows the final attack right before the time is up. The attack is so fast that nobody, not only their opponent team’s players but also her own team’s players cannot catch up with her. Now, she is about to shoot for the goal.
The one who blocks the attack is Sosizaki Midori.
She kicks the ball up so strong and the time is up. Sumire’s junior high school’s team loses in that moment.
Sumire is now blamed by her teammates that she did a fast attack at her own will.
“Why didn’t you wait a little more?”
“You just wanted to stand out, huh?”
However, the one who objects their comments is Midori, who has blocked her attack.
In the second half of the game, Sumire’s team’s movement got clearly slower, feeling they were about to lose. However, for Midori and other players, if Sumire waited so anybody couldn’t kick the ball, it would be much easier for them to hold them down. Midori clearly says this to them.
“There’s no way (Sumire would wait for you guys)…… Because you guys are slowpoke.”
They have lost the game not because of Sumire herself but the team’s laziness. However, she is left out, being judged that she is “selfish.”
This is how Sumire, who is very skillful at playing soccer, ends at her junior high school……
Sumire and Midori……
They have spent all their three years of junior high school as rivals.
Mdori is such a talented soccer player that she has been featured in the magazine. Sumire always feels disappointed at Midori’s ability. Therefore, for Sumire, Midori is sometimes irritating but…… whenever Midori asks her out to go see the soccer match, Sumire can never refuse it.
The match which they go watch is having a bad game.
After that game, most third-year students end up leaving the club after the match. It’s all due to their lazy coach.
Finally, there’s only one student remains.
The girl is crying.
Midori, looking at her crying, says to Sumire:
“She is all alone, just like you.”
“So, let’ go join the same team!”
Because she is talented, she is left out from other teammates.
Because she is passionate, she ends up being left out.
Although she loves to play soccer, she feels very lonely.
Midori says that she wants so make a team with those players.
“I’ll pass the ball to you. Let’s do it again. I will never leave you alone anymore.
“Are you asking me? I have completely lost at the regional match.”
“Because I’m the one who had you lose!”
Midori says. She doesn’t want to take an advantage from anything. We can never know what’s gonna happen unless we start. Nobody would kick the ball, thinking they will lose, right?
Because the ball is round……
This is how their high school soccer story begins.
What a lovely youth manga series……!
It looks like the author himself wants to cheer up Japan’s female soccer by creating this manga series! It’s now concluded so I recommend that you should read all the volumes at the same time! Both an anime and a film adaptation are scheduled to premiere in April so check them both out!
