[TV Anime Now Airing to Acclaim!] A romance-novice demon is too cute! Kanan-sama wa Akuma de Choroi!

Kanan-sama wa Akuma de Choroi begins with a dark and mysterious premise of a ”demon who devours human souls,” but in reality, it is a comical and adorable romantic comedy that will make you smile. The protagonist, Kanan, a demon of gourmet, descends to the human world in search of young, sweet souls, and shows a high-handed and cold attitude toward the male student she chose as her target, Kyougi Youji, but her dignity crumbles easily. The development where what should be an absolute relationship between the ”eater” and the ”eaten” somehow evolves into a lover's contract lightly betrays the reader's expectations and has the power to pull them into the world of the story at once. In particular, it is no exaggeration to say that the way Kanan, who should have appeared as an overwhelming presence, is bewildered, flustered, and blushes at the unknown emotion of love, establishes the charm of the work with that gap alone.
The greatest charm of this work lies in the fact that Kanan, a demon who is supposed to have lived for thousands of years, is surprisingly a novice when it comes to love. Her appearance, as she tries to respond strongly to Kyougi Youji's proactive approach but is completely paced by him, reacting excessively to every trivial event, is exactly as the title says—a word that can be summed up as ”pushover” (choro-i). However, that ”pushover” nature is never depicted as frivolousness, but rather as the flip side of her purity, making the reader naturally want to root for her. Even ordinary scenes of youth, such as holding hands or going home together, are depicted as major events, so the freshness and preciousness of love are conveyed to the reader many times over. The composition of a demon, who should be a powerful existence, being swayed by the words and actions of just one human is highly complete as a romantic comedy, firmly gripping the reader's heart and never letting go.
The story is further colored not only by the relationship between Kanan and Youji, but also by the characters around them. Ami, the maid who serves Kanan, functions as a presence that watches over the situation from a somewhat philosophical perspective while supporting her master, giving a sense of stability to the story. On the other hand, Jeanne, an apostle of God who came from the celestial world, has a clumsy and lovable personality, accelerating comical developments as a presence that contrasts with Kanan. The exchanges between the demon and the angel (apostle) on the same stage brilliantly neutralize the setting, which tends to become serious, and maintain a light tempo throughout. Such interplay between the characters strongly pushes the appeal as a ”slice-of-life romantic comedy” that goes beyond just a love story.
Kanan-sama wa Akuma de Choroi is a work that, while centering on the extraordinary existence of a demon, carefully depicts the thrill of romance, which is extremely classic in its essence. There is a strong catharsis in the process where a character who looks arrogant and perfect slowly crumbles due to love, and readers can fully enjoy the pleasure of watching that change. Also, the balance between gags and romance is very good, and the structure where you find yourself emotionally involved with the characters while laughing is brilliant. This work, which has such an exquisite aftertaste that you can read it lightly but it leaves a firm mark on your heart, can be said to be a perfect piece for readers who want to ”enjoy it casually but also want to feel properly excited.”
