[Fall 2025 Anime] No Talent, But Circumstances Take a Turn for the Better and His Role Keeps Powering Up!? Nageki no Bourei wa Intai Shitai - Saijaku Hunter ni Yoru Saikyou Party Ikuseijutsu!
Nageki no Bourei wa Intai Shitai - Saijaku Hunter ni Yoru Saikyou Party Ikuseijutsu is a unique fantasy work that becomes more addictive the more you read it. The setting is a world of swords and magic dotted with magic dungeons called “Treasure Vaults.” There, adventurers called Treasure Hunters risk their lives in pursuit of glory. Appearing right in the middle of this golden age is the “youngest Level 8 in history,” Krai Andrey. He is hailed by those around him as “divinely intelligent and demonically cunning,” and is viewed as a legendary and formidable strategist—but his true identity is actually just an ordinary person. His specialty is none other than prostrating himself (dogeza). His goal is neither to be the strongest in the world nor to achieve fame, but the modest(?) dream of “I want to retire quickly.” He is always racking his brain, thinking, “Can't I somehow safely get away with this?” yet for some reason, he keeps becoming more and more of a legend.
Surrounding Krai are comrades with talent levels that can truly be described as “monstrous.” Among the six who once vowed to “aim to become the strongest heroes,” he was the only one who clearly lacked talent. A word from his childhood friend was directed at him: “You don't really have a role, so you be the leader.” This remark was the beginning of everything. Thus, boosted by his cheat-level companions, and contrary to his own wishes, he was crowned the leader of the strongest party, Strange Grief. Forced unintentionally onto the path of a hero, Krai is caught up in a whirlwind of trouble day after day, yet he avoids(?) crises through “prostration” and a “readiness to flee.” The continuous developments are truly worthy of being called a “misunderstood, unconscious hero tale,” and they pleasantly defy the readers' expectations.
The greatest appeal of this work is, without a doubt, the character of the protagonist, Krai. In typical fantasy works, a hero is portrayed as charismatic, confident, and someone who faces difficulties head-on, but in this work, the opposite is true. Krai is constantly thinking about “how to retire” and is quick to flee rather than fight. However, his way of fleeing is so exquisite that even his casual remarks and timid actions are interpreted by those around him as a “higher-level strategy.” This gap is incredibly entertaining, creating developments filled with laughter and excitement. Moreover, the overall world-building and battle descriptions of the work are solidly crafted, and the story's completeness is extremely high. It is a new type of fantasy work in which gag elements and seriousness, chaos and logic, are exquisitely fused.
What I strongly felt after finishing the read is that this work poses the questions of what “the strongest” means and what “leadership” is, in a truly unique way. Krai is by no means strong in combat, nor can he be called a genius in terms of intellect. However, he creates an atmosphere around him that makes others “want to entrust things to him” and “want to support him”—this relationship is very beautiful and touching. Furthermore, many readers are sure to empathize with his “true feelings.” The reality of an “ordinary person” who thinks, “I don't want to stand out” and “I want to live quietly,” yet somehow ends up in a position where people expect things of him...... and consequently becomes a hero, is also one of the great appeals of this work.
