Ninja and Assassin, Suddenly Living Together!? Great Pacing! A High-Speed Gag Manga with Funny Jokes! Ninja to Koroshiya no Futari-gurashi!

“A runaway ninja meets an assassin in the city”—you might imagine a bloody battle action when you hear this, but this work lightly betrays that preconception. The story starts somewhat pathetically with the young Kunoichi, Kusagakure Satoko, who has escaped from her hidden village, collapsing on the street. The one who helps her is Koga Konoha, a girl who looks like an ordinary high school student. However, this ordinary girl actually has an outrageous hidden identity: she's a professional assassin. The precarious life of a ninja and an assassin living together begins with a chance encounter. Surprisingly, there's a hint of calm hidden within the everyday, and a slightly unconventional friendship.
Above all, this manga has outstanding pacing. You can't stop turning the pages. However, it's not just a slapstick relying on speed; each development is properly filled with meaning and humor. There are no messy developments that leave the reader behind, and the excellent balance between pacing and content richness is impressive. What's particularly striking is the “casual feel of the battle scenes.” The battles, which usually end in about three panels, and the style of never depicting conflict or anguish, is the interesting point that conversely makes the characters somewhat “mechanical” and endearing. Though it deals with heavy themes like killing and assassination, the fact that you can read it without feeling stressed is likely due to this decisive nature and sense of style.
And the true essence of this work is undoubtedly the charm of the characters' expressions and interactions. Satoko, the clueless and slightly clumsy Kunoichi, and Konoha, who is cool and collected yet has a somewhat absent-minded side. Their banter is simply adorable and funny. Satoko's expressions, in particular, leak emotion in every action, often making you laugh involuntarily. One must admire the composition that never becomes serious yet still firmly fosters affection for the characters. By cutting out the seriousness, the characters' individuality stands out, giving the reader a feeling of warmth and closeness.
