【Operation: Bad Girl!】 Get Noticed by Your Crush!! A Clumsy Good Girl Tries to Become a Delinquent in This Hilarious Comedy!

2025-09-22
Bad Girl is a hilariously offbeat coming-of-age comedy about a “not-at-all-bad” honor student who pretends to be a delinquent to get the attention of her crush. The protagonist, Yuutani Yuu, is a first-year high school girl who is the very definition of goodness, completely unconnected to any disorderly conduct. So why does such a girl aim to become a delinquent? The reason is laughably simple. It’s all because she wants to be liked by Mizutori Atori-senpai, the school’s Madonna and the disciplinary committee chair. Truly, “love is blind” perfectly describes it, and her desperate, misguided efforts are brilliantly turned into comedy.
The biggest charm of this work is, without a doubt, Atori-senpai’s overwhelming presence. Though she seems calm and collected, she’s actually cheerful, a bit eccentric, and keeps making Yuu’s heart go kohyu again and again. Incidentally, “kohyuru” is a coined term that describes the feeling of breath catching from surprise or excitement. It appears repeatedly in the story, depicting Yuu’s flustered reactions almost like anime-style gag expressions. Though she tries to act delinquent, she’s just too cute to be scary—this gap serves as the punchline every time, making readers cheer, “Hang in there, Yuu!”
While a gag manga, this work also carries a faint hint of yuri (girls’ love). Though romantic feelings aren’t outright stated, Yuu’s wholehearted devotion to Atori-senpai drives her every action, and the purer her love, the funnier the contrast becomes. Readers chuckle, yet before long, find themselves feeling a flutter from the closeness between the two. The subtle blending of yuri elements into comedy is exquisite, and the snappy dialogue plus delicate changes in expressions fit the 4-panel format surprisingly well.
The interactions between the characters are also a major highlight of this work. Yuu often flounders, but her honesty and earnestness are heartwarming to watch. Atori-senpai, with her cheerfulness, always disrupts the pace, while the surrounding characters jump in perfectly as the straight man. The timing between jokes and retorts is outstanding, and as you read, you naturally find yourself smiling—that’s the true joy of this work. The characters’ endearing flaws and the gentle, pleasant aftertaste of reading are also key charms.
